'If you want some basic bitch, go to the Beverly Center and find her'

These sage words of advice have been issued earlier this year by the incomparable Miss Lana Del Rey, who graces us with the title track from her latest LP. However, we're not at all bitter, cynical, or entirely melancholy this year, as dancey trancey vibes seem to rise to the forefront in the form of the likes of Amtrac, Elderbrook, Romy, Kylie, Diplo, Armin, Tibi Jr, and Fred Again..

While disco sensations set the tone of this year's mix, and Kesha hooked up with the almighty Rick Rubin, TayTay has started her epic Eras tour this year, and we happily commemorate this momentous trek by including another single from her Midnights album.

In addition to the usual suspects of Posty, Dua Lipa, Shakira, Bon Iver, and good old OMD, we've also experienced an unusually strong twangy year, often courtesy of a Mr Charley Crockett, who has graced us with no less than three separate instances this year.

Strangely enough, the former President Barack Obama has provided us with a musical recommendation in the form of the Beths, whose song here 'Expert in a dying field' seems to suggest the status of guitar rock in the cultural zeitgeist these days. Tellingly, only their track included here is the closest representation to that ostensibly dying genre this year. Rock is dead... for now at least. Time marches on.

Finally, this year's artwork is inspired by the sleeve covers of a series of records made by German artist Alva Noto (Carsten Nicolai) and Ryuichi Sakamoto between 2002 and 2011. Those recordings, particularly Insen and Summvs, really kill, so check them out after listening to our mix.
