e think the rationale for this title came from the fact that we had wanted to have a much simpler artwork than the previous year's mix CD, which led to our having spent way too much on the aforementioned colour ink cartridges. Hence 2002 was all about the nuts and bolts-- straightforward music delivery in cheap black and white.

A note about the Pet Shop Boy's track 'I get along': clocking in at 5 minutes and 50 seconds, it was the longest track ever to be included on these compilations so far, and its length would not be exceeded until Hot Chip's track in 2012 (significantly during the digital download era, when time constraints are not as much of an issue). We usually like to keep tracks short on these surveys. We really prefer songs to be 2-3 minutes long, and anything pass the 4-minute mark is really pushing it for us. The brevity of short songs would allow us to include as many different selections as possible, given the time contraints on a 90-minute cassette tape of 80-minute CD. More importantly, short songs tend not to disrupt the flow of a programmed musical selection of tracks, nor do they overstay their welcome. Note the survey debut of our perennial potty-mouthed favourite: P!nk!
