Alternate titles for this year's compilation included I am the danger and Yo, bitches!. In the end, Mike Ehrmantraut's story takes the cake. We have been obsessed with the conclusion of Breaking Bad.

Some random notes: we acknowledge that Iconapop's 'I love it' already appeared on comrade Stephen's year-end best-of CD last year. Superstar DJ David Guetta makes no less than four appearances here, a record for these surveys. In fact, Guetta tops the record he set himself on last year's survey. Runner-up Ke$ha makes three appearances here. Incidentally, Daft Punk's 'Get lucky' has been omitted because it will probably be included on everybody else's year-end mix. Robin Thicke's 'Blurred lines' has been omitted because it's boring. Finally, we also present to you the longest track ever on these surveys: Arcade Fire's 'Reflektor'.

While we've been avidly following popular music since the late 1970s, we don't think the quality of the mainstream benchmark has ever been this high. The late 1990s was a great pop period, but it doesn't even come close to what we've got now. Perhaps like the case with current American cable television, we are now entering the glittering, golden age of pop classics, or at least in terms of club and dubstep bangerz. Hopefully, you may find that some of this sheen can be reflected in the following survey.

For your convenience this year, a m3u playlist file as been included in the zip package to ensure easy proper sequencing for the mp3 tracks:
