Dear Applicant,
Welcome to Delta Phi Epsilon’s Fall 2024 Rush! We are excited that you are interested in becoming a part of our community. Delta Phi Epsilon (DPhiE) is UC Berkeley’s premier co-ed international relations fraternity, and we aim to bring together people who share a common interest in international affairs and the world around us. Since 1923, the Epsilon Chapter of DPhiE has been home to a diverse alumni base, many of whom are engaged in incredible work for a wide variety of organizations, including the US State Department, the Los Angeles Times, and the International Rescue Committee. Being a member of DPhiE not only provides you with the skills to grow professionally, but also personally: our fraternity offers mentorships, life-long friends, and a strong, international alumni network. We are proud to be part of an organization that represents individuals with diverse backgrounds and career interests while maintaining a commitment to global affairs, diplomacy, and pursuing opportunities abroad.
This Fall, we are holding three rush events that aim to introduce you to the members of our community and the fraternity as a whole. “Meet the Chapter” (Thursday, 9/5) will be an in-person event where you will not only have the opportunity to interact with active members and other fellow applicants, but also learn more about what Delta Phi Epsilon can offer through a presentation from our Executive Committee and an interactive panel of active members. The second rush event, “Perspectives on Professionalism” (Tuesday, 9/10), is an in-person event that will offer you the chance to explore your professional goals both in the fraternity and in your own career, as well as the opportunity to engage with a panel of our guest DPhiE alumni. The third and final rush event is another in-person event: our “Global Game Night” (Thursday, 9/12), which will consist of international relations-themed games and trivia. In this event, you will have the opportunity to socialize with the fraternity in a more relaxed environment. We ask that you dress in semi-professional attire for the second rush event, “Professional Night”, although we know not everyone’s closet is a Men’s Warehouse, so please come in whatever semi-professional dress means to you. For the first and second rush events, feel free to dress in whatever you feel most comfortable. Finally, the application is due the day following our final Rush Event (Friday, 9/13), which must be completed by 11:59pm if you wish to be eligible for membership.
These rush events will not only allow you to interact with our fellow DPhiE members, but also provide invaluable insight about who we are as an organization so that you can decide whether Delta Phi Epsilon is the best fit for you. We encourage you to take full advantage of these events and approach this process as you would any other networking opportunity.
As Membership Vice Presidents, our role is to assist and oversee the professional and social development of our pledge class throughout the semester. For this fall, we seek to guide this semester’s pledge class in strengthening their professional confidence as well as their personal interests. We plan to help the new pledge class become strong global citizens united under our organization’s passion to serve both our local and global communities. The pledging process consists of lectures from leading individuals in the field of international relations, meetings, and projects aimed to broaden one’s international horizons, and professional development exercises that will help prepare for future career endeavors.
We look forward to meeting the many new faces that will be joining us this semester! Even more, we are excited to support you going into the rush process and help you get to know Delta Phi Epsilon as a whole. We can't wait to meet the passionate, intelligent, and thoughtful people who will soon call themselves the Fall 2024 Pledge Class of Delta Phi Epsilon.
Sincerely,
Phoebe Lemon and Sanjan Kanajanavar
