December 26-30, 2011 - Campus Winter Energy Curtailment
Heating and ventilation will be curtailed (normal electric service will still be maintained) on the Berkeley campus from Saturday, December 24, 2011 through Sunday, January 1, 2012. Last year, our combined efforts saved 820,000 kWh of electricity and 1,900 Klbs of steam, for costs savings of about $83,000.
December 15, 2011 - Facilities Services Holiday Party
CALGeT set up a table at the 2011 FS Holiday Party on December 15, 2011 and handed out Hershey miniature candy bars to help advertise our new website and Facebook page. Remember to "Like" our Facebook page by 1/31/2012 for a chance to win a $25 gift card!

August 2011 - New ReUSE Station Opens at 2000 Carleton
During Earthweek 2011, PP-CS had a major clean-out and all the extra office supplies were collected. The old ReUSE station was moved from the copy room to Room 216. The new ReUSE station stocks assorted office supplies such as binders, manila folders, envelopes, pens, and binder clips.
April 2011 - PP-CS Receives 3 TGIF Grants
PP-CS received 3 TGIF grants for 2011-2012: Custodial Communications, Air Handling Unit Transmitters, and Low Water Irrigation.
Spring 2011 - Durant Hall Receives LEED Silver Certification
The Durant Hall Renovation project was awarded LEED Silver Certification by the US Green Building Council. The renovation project was completed Summer 2010 and is the first freestanding LEED building on the central campus, and the campus' 5th LEED Certification. Student group Building Sustainability at Cal (BS@C) will be working with Campus Refuse and Recycling to implement composting in the building.
April 2011 - Chancellor Sets Water Reduction Goal for UC Berkeley
During the 8th Annual Sustainability Summit, Chancellor Birgeneau set a campus-wide goal to reduce the campus use of potable water to 10 percent below 2008 levels by 2020. UC Berkeley uses more than 600 million gallons of potable water annually. There are many opportunities to reduce water waste by replacing inefficient fixtures and equipment with more efficient ones, repairing leaks, and overall educational outreach.
