Some Thoughts about Current Issues in the Didactics of Modern Standard Arabic and Traditional and Modern Arabic Linguistics

In this paper, I critically comment on some current issues pertaining to the instruction of Modern Standard Arabic.
While historical, political and religious topics are touched, the focus of this study will be on linguistic and
philological issues, given the interests of its author. Special attention will be paid to the problem of appropriate
grammatical terminology in the scholarly description of Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic as well as present day Arabic
dialects) and selected other issues.
