Berkeley Computational Music Research (BCMR) aims to bridge the divide between the cutting-edge computational tools developed at UC Berkeley and the vast potential applications of these tools in music research. It is the first initiative within UC Berkeley’s music department to explore the applications of novel computational research methods. With support from CNMAT, the Student Tech Fund, and the Townsend Center, we host an annual conference and provide periodic workshops. Topics covered include music recommendation algorithms, automated transcription software, complex network analysis, podcasting, and more. Our first annual conference, entitled Synthesis: Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Computational Music Research, will take place on Saturday, September 28 at UC Berkeley’s Center for New Music and Audio Technology (CNMAT).
