Why is that Sensei? Asking questions and getting sagely zen like answers or just, "I said so…" What is "Ki" Sensei? It can be exasperating to ask a question and hear sagely zen like answers, etc. especially since we are not "Asian's" nor Zen practitioners, etc. so when Americans ask a question they are "expecting a coherent answer." Seems pretty reasonable to me and I try my best, sometimes with too much information, to answer a question with the most factual answer possible. Here is something important to you who practice a "traditional" martial art/fighting art/karate, etc., if you do not know the answer say so and get the answer. We as males with all our ego driven pride, the monkey, tend to make up answers to questions we don't know the answer to by brining out anything that may connect to the question from our brains and formulating an answer that could be correct but in most cases is just bullshit. I think this is a part of our survival instincts. I bet a lot will argue that point with me… Then there are the answers that are almost always fictional but they sound so "cool" that many buy into it if for no other reason it brings mystique to what we do in the karate world. I firmly believe in what I am told, mostly, but with a modicum of skepticism at least until I can research it and find factual information to either validate it or refute it. I strongly recommend this to anyone and everyone who dabbles, either as a hobby or seriously, to follow this way. The real crying shame of this type of story telling is sometimes those who start the story end up believing it as if it were really true and sometimes get themselves into deep doo-doo when confronted to prove it. Many so called psychics have been put to the wall, on television with millions watching no less, and then embarrassed when the so called special ability turns out to be a farce. We, practitioners of karate/teachers of karate, must be diligent and remain skeptical until thoroughly proven to be true and to work. Anything else does a disservice to us and to those who look to us for leadership and training/knowledge. It is just the right thing to do! It doesn't get any simpler than that so listen up folks. |
