Mehrnaz Ahrar
Hey there! Yes, you!! You want to know a secret about me? Well, to be honest I loathed my name as a child. The teachers butchered it, my classmates confused it for Smirnoff, and my best friends attempted to create nicknames — none of which ever worked out of course. Why? Because my name embodies the true essence of who I am. Mehrnaz means Sun’s Glory in Persian. Though I am not attesting that I am as big or yellow as this pervasive mass in our cosmos, I do say that I do exuberate energy — A LOT of energy; all natural of course! I am so hungry for knowledge– for the opportunity to understand the unknown — and I am very grateful to exercise this opportunity in one of the greatest institutions in the world. Go bears! I am very excited to serve you and I am very passionate about Women Empowerment. It fires every nerve in my body and gets me so excited I feel like I am going to jump to the roof. I am very committed to this organization, and I promise to do whatever I can to help each individual woman reach her fullest potential. I believe that together we can develop a society of women who support one another and lead with humility, love, and perseverance. I welcome you to Women Empowerment. Together WE are!

I go by Dre. I am grateful to be attending UC Berkeley and being the subject of the countless opportunities it presents me as an institution. I strive to make every aspect of the institution better me as an individual and develop my self and mind such that I can always act with a sense of purpose and take nothing for granted. I am a cognitive science major, Spanish minor, and premedical candidate. Women empowerment resonates with me first and foremost because I am a woman but also because power structures have too long determined society and will honestly continue to do so unless every individual is aware of his or her innate power to affect change in the world in any social, political, educational, or environmental sphere. I do not believe that anybody should be silenced nor that anybody’s voice should be disregarded due to any reason whatsoever. To empower oneself is to empower another by way of admiration and understanding, and that is what I hope our cause strives for. I have various non-academic interests including but not limited to: dancing, snow boarding, painting, biking, hiking, trail running, swimming, river rafting, looking at the sky, sleeping, and eating amazing food.
I promise to open up to you if you promise to do the same with me. I think we are the best version of ourselves when we truly understand ourselves, and communicating ones deepest emotions fosters that understanding.

I am so excited to be a part of revitalizing such an amazing club around such beautiful, strong, empowered women. I am all about progressive movements that forward social change. i have been strongly affected by societal constructs regarding the gender binary, and what it specifically means to be a woman. I have gone through woman pains and triumphs and think there is strength in support and understanding. Whether it’s among women or women against the world, I want to be a guide and helping hand to those who side with the women’s struggle. As a person, I like to adventure around the world with a pep in my step and like new experiences. I’m a hopeless romantic and a bit of an idealist, but believe that a little optimism in this world never hurts. I enjoy hiking, attending shows, and standing by my loved ones. I accept and welcome those from all walks of life. <3 Looking forward to changing my world every day.
