JAPAN TRIP

esp for you, Jacob:
There is no other country that is better suited than to buy Japanese comics and things than Japan. I have found many many used bookshops, but here are some of the cheaper places to buy comics and anime things: ikebukuro shibuya umeda

I went to Japan with my brother from 22/07/97 to 19/08/97 and visited many places, the high tech skyscrapers of Tokyo's Shinjuku to the old traditional temples of Kyoto. I bought the Japan rail pass which allows you ride JR Company rail. (like the national rail) The places I've went to are Tokyo, Kamakura, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Nara and Kyoto. For some reason I like the Kansai area more than Tokyo. Perhaps it is the appeal of the Syoudengai (shopping streets) of Osaka, and the international atmosphere of Kobe.

Left: This is the Umeda Train Station

I flew Cathay Pacific Airlines...they had a Japanese cold soba set meal on board which wasn't bad-tasing...for airplane food. I Arrived at the Narita "Tokyo" Airport. (Which is actually in Chiba!) A friend picked me up shortly after and I went to my place of stay, Hachioji, which is one hour west of Central Tokyo. I had stayed in Tokyo (and visited Kamakura) for a short while until I left for the Kansai Area.

Right: I forgot where this is, maybe in Akihabara - nope this is Shinjuku, as a friend reminded me.

This is a syoudengai, or shopping street in Osaka

McDonalds in Kabukicho area, but I like MOS Burger better. They sell more 'healthier' burgers there, along with other foods like hot dogs.

KAMAKURA

Kamakura is now a very peaceful small town, but was the ancient capital of Japan. It is even more older than Kyoto, in terms of the buildings. There are many temples here. I went to the Engaku-ji, the Meitsuin Temple, and theKencho-ji temples...and ate my first bowl of cold soba.
