DAY 12 - I woke up at around 8:30, about an hour later than what I wanted to. The old man later came to pick up the bedding as I went downstairs. I saw the Lonely Planet described, "overworked" old lady downstairs who have worked here for about 40 years. After greeting her, I finally left for travelling. I first went to take a look around Hokkaido University. The campus is rather large and beautiful, unlike some of the universities I had been to. I walked in Odori Park all the way to the end to get to Sapporo City Document Museum. There wasn't that many things to look around here so I went towards the Old Clock Tower, a symbol of Sapporo. Along the way, there were many OLs and high school students eating lunch at the park. To get a good view of the whole area, one could ride up the TV Tower for 700 yen. Fortunately, the Lonely Planet guide said that a good view can be obtained from the government building's 19th floor. I took the bus to Observation Hill with the statue of the founder of Hokkaido University, Dr. Clark, and his famous phrase, "BOYS' BE AMBITUOUS!" The Salmon Museum wasn't really that interesting. As I was headed to the Sapporo JR station, I passed by Nakajima Koen, Hoheikan (former 1880s house used to accomodate Emperor Meiji), Museum of Winter Sports, and the Hokkaido Museum of Literature. Around 5 to 6, I took a train to Otaru.
