tsukiakari sotto terashita
shizuku no houseki matotte
dokoka ni wasureta nanika omoidasenai mono
nani kashira? odorimashou
Moonlight gently shone down
Clothing those little jewels
It was forgotten somewhere, something no one can remember,
What was it, I wonder? Let's dance...
te ni totta akai kajitsu wa
kioku wo sotto himotoku you ni
shoujo no watashi wo tsurete hohoemikaketa
'sukoshi amai watashi wo douzo' [1]
The red fruit I took into my hand
Seemed to gently untie my memories
It led the girl in me to smile, as it said
'I'm sweet, so please go ahead.' [1]
kimi ga ima mo soba ni iru to maboroshi wo miru [2]
mezametemo soko wa yume de suki da yo
KOKORO ni aru sukima wo mou umerarenakute
kuchibiru no naka...
I see an illusion in which you're by my side, [2]
Even though I'm awake, I love being in that dream
This hole in my heart can't be filled
So between my lips...
kiss no you ni akai kajitsu wa
tabete mita otona no watashi
shoujo no watashi wa sotto katarikakete kita
'kore de yatto hitotsu ni nareru'
The grown-up in me tasted
This red fruit that was like a kiss
The little girl in me softly said,
'Now we can finally become one.'
kimi no koto wo ai shisugita massugu na me wa [3]
mukashi mita donna yume mo miezu ni
KOKORO ni aru subete no basho kimi no ibasho ni
kaete shimatta asa wa kuru no?
I loved you too deeply, until my honest eyes [3]
Became blind to the dreams I dreamed long ago
Every part of my heart changed to become part of you
Will morning ever come?
mezame nasai KOKORO wa mou hitotsu ni naru yo
asa datte sugu soko made kite'ru yo
kore kara saki moshi dareka to koi ni ochitemo (moshimo dareka to koi ni)
nido to konai kono basho ni wa strawberry fields
mabushiku erasu hi wo abite kagayaku shizuku
shukufuku wo shite tooku kieta
Awaken, for your heart will again become one,
Morning is coming very soon
In the future, even if you should fall in love (if you should love)
You will never return to these strawberry fields
Those shining jewels bathed in the brilliant sunlight
With a blessing, they disappeared into the distance.
Translator's Notes :
[1] This line is actually an invitation to eat the strawberry, but said in a gracious manner: 'I'm just a little sweet, but please [eat].'
[2] The reading 'maboroshi' (dream, illusion) is given the kanji 'genkaku' (hallucination, illusion).
[3] The reading 'massugu' (straight, honest) is given the kanji 'junsui' (pure, genuine).
