ano hi kono basho de deatta shunkan
sotto natsukashii kaze ni tsutsumarete ita
When we first met
On that day, at this place,
We were enveloped
By a wonderfully soft wind.
atarimae ni warau futari no kyori wa
kurushii kedo ugokidasu kokoro tomerarenai
The two of us laughed freely,
And though the distance between us made me ache,
I couldn't stop
The quickening beat of my heart.
kanojo ga matte iru eki ni mukatta
ushiro sugata wa itsushika hitogomi ni magirete kiete yuku
itsu made mo te wo futta watashi no sugata sae furikaerazu
Facing the train station, she waited
But before she knew it,
His departing figure disappeared into the crowd,
Without even looking back at me
As I endlessly waved my hand.
donna usotsuki ni natte shimattemo
sei'ippai no egao wo anata ni sasagetai
No matter what kinds of lies
There may have been between us,
I want to show you
My most brilliant smiles.
anata ga daisuki na kono uta wo kiku
hitori de kuchizusanda yuugure miageta sora
Listening to this song
That was your favorite,
I would sing quietly to myself in the night
And look up at the sky
kiesou ni kagayaku hoshi ni mukatte negai wo kometa kokoro wa
dareka no kanashimi to hikikae ni shiawase ni naru no wo nozonde iru
nante jibun katte
Facing the stars, which shine as though just about to disappear
My heart fills with desires,
Wishing for someone's sorrow and, at the same time, happiness
How selfish I am...
'Never I can love you...'
hontou wa shitte iru anata wa itsumo daisuki na hito mitsumete
guuzen ni fureta watashi no te wo sotto furikitta sore ga yasashisa da to [1]
okubyou na watashi wa massugu na me de uketomeru koto dekizu ni
nando mo iiwake wo sagashite'ru
fui ni maiagatta ano toki to onnaji kaori ga suru kaze ni
tsutsumarete kyou mo
'I can never love you...'
I know the truth
Your gaze is fixed on the person you've always loved,
So you gently withdrew your hand from mine [1]
In a sort of kindness
I, a coward, couldn't respond or look you in the face,
And endlessly I search for excuses.
A wind has suddenly whirled up,
Carrying the same scent it had on that day,
Enveloping me, even to this day.
Translator's Notes :
[1] I couldn't fit this smoothly into here, but 'guuzen ni fureta watashi no te' means that '(you) touched my hand by mistake/by chance'; that is, you were looking for someone else but you were drawn to me by mistake.
