dorekurai jikan ga sugita no kana
futarikiri hoka ni hitokage no nai HOOMU [1]
How much time
Has passed by, I wonder?
In our home of homes, where there was no trace of anyone [1]
But just the two of us.
deatte koi shite wakarete soshite mata deatte koi wo shite...
hajimete negatta anata to meguriai tashika na eien wo
We met, we loved, we separated
And then we met and loved again...
It was my first wish, to meet you
Time and time again.
furueru yubisaki ga sukoshi fureta
tooku he yukitai kono mama tooku made
My trembling fingertips
Touched it just briefly,
I want to go far away
Just like this, far away.
nanimokamo sutete shimaeru hodo no
koi dake wa nido to shinai to omotte ita
It was strong enough that I
Could have thrown everything else away,
I thought I would never again
Feel this kind of love.
jibun ja mienai garasu ni tojikomori hontou wa okubyou de
iya na koto susumu koto kokoro wo hiraku koto nando mo koroshite
I withdrew into a glass shield, a deep sickness
I couldn't see anything for myself,
My dislikes, my aspirations, my emotions,
Killing these things over and over again...
yozora ni kiete yuku REERU no ue
tomaranai ai ni notte hashiridasu
ashita ni nareba dareka wo kizutsukeru sore ga kanashii...
On this railroad
Disappearing into the night sky
I'll board this ride of unstoppable love
And set off.
When tomorrow comes, I'll hurt this person,
What sadness...
yozora ni kagayaku hoshi no sugata
ai suru mono michibiku takusan no kokoro
can't stop hashiridasu REERU no ue
can't stop watashitachi wo doko he izanau
ashita ni nareba yoru ga kureba soko wa eien no naka
The stars I see, shining in the night sky
Will guide us lovers, we multitude of hearts,
Can't stop... I'll set off on this railroad,
Can't stop... Drawing us to some unknown place,
When tomorrow comes, and night falls
We'll be in the midst of eternity.
Translator's Notes :
[1] The reading 'HOOMU' (home) is given the kanji 'eki' (train station). A metaphorical interpretation of this line is probably most appropriate. The place of these two people's fondest memories (their 'home of homes') is a train station, where both characters are always separating to go on their various travels and, every so often, finding each other once again. The image of the 'eki' also comes back later in the final stanza and chorus, when a 'railroad into the sky' is mentioned.
