2014 Graduate Student Representatives

Jenn is a first year PhD student in epidemiology. Her research interests include environmental and occupational epidemiology, exposure assessment, and environmental justice. She is particularly interested in understanding the health effects of prenatal and early life chemical exposures.

Simon is a first year medical and graduate student at the UC Berkeley - UCSF Joint Medical Program. He graduated from UC Berkeley with an undergraduate degree in Public Health and decided that he loved Berkeley way too much to ever leave. He is excited at the enormous potential the student government has to improve student services and to enhance the educational experience for all at the School of Public Health.

Adam is a first year MPH student in the Epidemiology/Biostatistics concentration and is interested in disease surveillance. In addition to his involvment with the SPH Student Goverment Adam is a contributing member of CalSTAPH, volunteering on outbreak investigations at the California Department of Public Health.

Kevin is a first year MPH candidate in the Health and Social Behavior concentration. Prior to returning to graduate school, he worked as a health educator focusing on HIV prevention throughout the Bay Area. He is interested in planning and evaluating interventions and policies that focus on addressing the social determinants of health, specifically focusing on racial and structural health disparities that impact Asian immigrants.

Shannon is pursuing her MPH in Maternal and Child Health. She worked previously at the Institute for Family Health in the Bronx, New York providing supplemental prenatal education and coordinating the Centering Pregnancy program. With her MPH Shannon is looking forward to working to improve health equity, particularly among women, families and children.

Toki is a first year MA student studying Biostatistics. He was born in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Davis. His interest in public health began when he conducted research on zinc supplementation for prevention of diarrhea in children aged 6-30 months from Burkina Faso, West Africa. He is looking forward to meeting people from other breadths of public health and helping in any way possible.

Lara graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Statistics. She is a first year MA student studying Biostatistics and looks forward to meeting and working with colleagues in other public health fields. Her current focuses are understanding how to analyze genomics data and learning about its ties to personalized medicine.
