The 6th Annual UC Berkeley Sociological Research Symposium
Friday, April 18, 2014 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm
Anna Head Alunmae Hall, UC Berkeley
Each year, thousands of undergraduates and graduate students in disciplines ranging from American Studies to Sociology produce quality, pre-professional sociological papers. However, opportunities to share research findings in a community based on open, supportive inquiry are not easy to find at UC Berkeley. Current opportunities to share research are often conducted and contained, for the most part, within each academic level (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), thereby diminishing the enrichment of pre-professional experiences, exposure to subfields within disciplines, and networking among various academic levels. Even more, in a world of increasing global interconnectedness requiring interdisciplinary responsiveness, the creation of intellectual spaces in which research from multiple disciplines can be articulated and shared becomes fundamentally paramount.
The UC Berkeley Sociological Research Symposium offers undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals opportunities to share exceptional sociological work from different disciplines. By inviting students and professionals to present their work, the Symposium seeks to create a greater sense of community among sociological scholars.
This year, the Symposium will organize its conference around the theme Challenging Inequality: Defining a Better Future. Registration and food are free, but presenter and attendee spots are limited. We can’t wait to see you there!
