Rachel Bailey is a freshman pursuing her undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Media Studies. She hopes to attend graduate school and work in academia. In the meantime, she intends to focus on doing meaningful research that can contribute to a higher level of local social equity. Outside of school, Rachel loves watching movies and reviewing them, she also loves playing instruments and recording music.
Idalis Camarena is a junior transfer student at the University of California, Berkeley who will be graduating with a degree in Sociology in 2021. After college, Idalis wishes to attend graduate school in Southern California, her hometown. She is particularly interested in entering the educational system by becoming either a community college counselor or a teacher at her local high-school and eventually working in school administration. Currently, Idalis is working as an undergraduate research apprentice (URAP) for Professor Tolani Britton. In her free time Idalis loves to work out, and be around her loved ones.
Alexander Coates is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. His heartfelt wish to see the insights of the sociological discipline shared with the world at large spurs his interests in public and applied sociologies. In his free time he likes to swim, run, and write.
Faith Garalde is a junior at the University of California, Berkeley graduating in 2021 with a degree in Sociology. Faith transferred in the fall of 2019 from a community college in the Bay Area. After college she wants to work in consumer behavior/marketing, but ultimately hopes to attend graduate school for psychology due to her strong interest in human behavior. Faith works two as a gymnastics coach and is studying to become an NASM certified personal trainer. In her free time she loves to be active; hiking, lifting weights at the gym, or doing judo!
Yu-Wen Liao is an exchange student from Taiwan. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sociology at National Sun-yat Sen University. She is also a co-founder of Taiwan Reach-Out Association for Democracy, dedicated to promoting citizen participation and the deepening of democracy in Taiwan. Her research interests include political sociology, urban sociology, and deliberative and participatory democracy. In her free time, well… there is no free time for graduate students… jk! She enjoys cooking, playing volleyball, and doing yoga.
Katerine Perez is currently a junior at the University of California, Berkeley studying Sociology. She has been a Peer Adviser since Spring 2019 for the Sociology Department. She is an undergraduate researcher on the Shift Project, where she investigates the relationship between parents’ precarious work schedules and childhood asthma. After graduation, she would like to work in government/social policy research, with the ultimate goal of attending graduate school. In her free time, Kathy spends her time at her daycare job, working out, trying new recipes, or practicing her French. She loves the Mint Mojito from Philz Coffee!
Kseniya Romanenko is a transfer student from Berkeley City College. She is in her junior year pursuing a double major in French and Sociology. Her academic interests include U.S. social policy, French history, and Philosophy of Nietzsche and Foucault. As a next academic step she hopes to pursue a law degree. When she’s not dedicating every bit of her being to studying, she bakes, learns Korean through listening to Kpop, and goes out into nature!
Alexander Sandoval is currently a junior transfer at the University of California, Berkeley pursuing a degree in Sociology with a concentration in Sociological Research Methods. He transferred to Cal from Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA. After undergrad, he hopes to attend graduate school in New York. In his free time, Alex enjoys playing video-games, cooking, working out, and is in learning how to snowboard.
