Analyzing Crime Incidents in San Francisco

The map above illustrates the types of crime taking place in San Francisco from September 2016 until today. I was particularly interested with the crime incidents that didn’t get resolved since it provides us a different picture of the safety in the city altogether.
I was able to grab my data from the SF open data platform and then loaded up my csv as a pandas dataframe. The conversion to a geoJSON file was my next step. I wanted to get a fair idea of 3 categories of crime taking place in San Francisco – Burglary, Drugs, Assault. I knew that analyzing these categories would provide a fair understanding of the tough streets in San Francisco.
Upon plotting my data, I figured that the crime incidents are primarily concentrated in the north east side of San Francisco particularly the SOMA region. It was surprising to me since these areas are also heavily populated. For crimes to be unresolved in these areas could be a concern but the reasons are left to be explored. Moreover, unresolved drug related crimes are comparatively lesser in number and more spread out in the map.
It would also be useful to plot data that analyzes crime incidents occurring at particular points during the data to be alert in streets that are potentially dangerous.
