BASQUE 2005
Berkeley Quiz Bowl would like to announce this year's mirror of BASQUE, our summer mirror of Chicago Open and sundry associated tournaments. BASQUE will be held the same weekend as Chicago Open, July 2-3.
The tournament director is Paul Lujan, <plujan at berkeley dot edu>. Please direct all correspondence to him.
Events
This year, the following events will be held at Chicago Open:
- Chicago Open, ~15 rounds of advanced-level academic questions, written mostly by Subash Maddipoti
- 10 rounds of trash written by Andrew Yaphe and Subash
- Science Monstrosity, a packet-submission science event edited by Jordan Boyd-Graber
- The Jacopo Pontormo Tournament of Manners, a fine arts singles tournament written by Chris Frankel
- A classical music recognition tournament by Eric Kwartler
Current status
The tentative schedule is as follows. All events will be on Saturday.
- 9:30 AM: Assemble in Barrows 185, introductory meeting, forming of teams from primordial soup
- 10:00 AM-1:30 PM: Chicago Open
- 1:30 PM-2:30 PM: Lunch
- 2:00 PM: All TRASH-only players should aim to arrive by this time
- 2:30 PM-6:00 PM: TRASH
- 6:00 PM-7:00 PM: Dinner
- 7:00 PM-10:00 PM: Science Monstrosity
The current plans are as follows:
- Mini-Chicago Open: 4 teams, 7 rounds (double round robin + final)
- Mini-TRASH: ditto
- Science Monstrosity: most likely 5 teams, 5 round RR + playoff round
- Fine arts/classical music: Not held, sorry
At the moment, we have arrangements to mirror Chicago Open, trash, and Science Monstrosity. We have not yet arranged to mirror the fine arts or the classical music, so if you are interested in these events, it is especially important to email me and let me know.

Fees and packets
The fees are rock-bottom: $5/person/event, except for Science Monstrosity, which is $0.
