Chiefs' Slow Offensive Starts and Strong Finishes in Super Bowls
The Kansas City Chiefs have played in four of the last five Super Bowls. In all four Super Bowl appearances, the Chiefs' offense started poorly:
The Chiefs bounced back to win three of those Super Bowls (including two against the 49ers):
- Super Bowl 54: The Chiefs scored three touchdowns in their final three non-kneel down drives to turn a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit into an 11-point victory.
- Super Bowl 55: The Chiefs moved the ball well at the end of the game (182 yards from scrimmage in their final three drives). Yet, they scored a grand total of 0 points as the three drives were stalled inside the Buccaneers' 30-yard line. This game was the sole loss in the four recent Super Bowls. (I think the game being played in Tampa Bay had something to do with that.)
- Super Bowl 57: They scored twenty-four points in their four second-half drives to turn a 10-point halftime deficit into a 3-point victory.
- Super Bowl 58: They scored nineteen points in their final four drives to overcome a 7-point halftime deficit and win by three points in overtime.
When your team's quarterback is Patrick Mahomes, it's always possible for your team to recover.
