Electric tank or perhaps tankless, solar heating system i am not sure which one in all honesty, are you aware which includes the most effective price to performance proportion in general?
Solar heating systems with water tanks provide significantly more energy recovery. Some engineers at UC Berkeley (Michael He, et al.) are developing a solar thermal sterling engine that uses a mechanical rotor to generate electricity and can be placed on rooftop of a large home or small commercial building. If the same water that is used to power the sterling engine is also used for in-home/building heating then it significantly influences the thermal efficiency of the solar thermal engine (close to ~30% of IR from the sun will be converted to usable energy).
