English Lesson Plans...
...a la Jeffrey.
Kid tested--JTE approved!
Here is a comprehensive, life-long curriculum of English lesson plans designed for and rigorously tested on Japanese students of all levels. It is adaptable to other environments, though individual mileage may vary.
I am making my lesson plans available here in Microsoft Word (.doc) format so that you can easily download and modify them to suit your needs. Each level starts with a carefully crafted annual lesson plan outline to put things into perspective. For each lesson, there is a carefully formatted lesson plan to help keep you and your Team-Teaching partners on the same page. There may also be various handouts, activity worksheets, or game cards.
As with all things in life, use at your own risk:
- 小 Elementary School
A complete curriculum with lesson plans and materials extended across the grade levels to lead students smoothly and confidently from 1st Grade to the Grade 5/6 textbooks.
- 中 Junior High School
I've got a few tricks up my sleeve to remain relevant and influential even in the secondary role of Assistant. I will be sharing them here as I put them into play.
- 高 High School Oral Communications
A complete curriculum with lesson plans and materials developed over 5 years of teaching 1st-year students at a Japanese Technical High School. These materials can easily be adapted up or down for use in JHS Elective Courses, SHS Academic English Clubs, or Adult Oral Communications Classes.
- Communicative English: A Practical Guide
Probably the most comprehensive guide available as to what the Gifu Board of Education expects of its ALTs, JTEs, and English Education in general, recommendations on how to reach these expectations, troubleshooting guides for when things go awry, and a host of resources to help you on the way. So if you ever find yourself wandering, wondering why you are here, this is a good place to go to find your bearings and set your course.

- Daily English Diary & Learning Tips FREE on YouTube!
I have a new resource to share for daily reading and listening practice--
I am a firm believer in the power of lots and lots of easy, pleasurable reading over time (Extensive Reading). It's like magic. But getting my busy students to make time for it just wasn't working out practically. I needed to think creatively and commit to meeting them where they are at. So I recently started posting my daily diary in English on YouTube. The video is for listening (or shadowing) and the text is in the description below for reading. It's very short (about one or two minutes!) and in pretty easy English so just about anyone can follow along and get a daily dose of useful English. And it's fun!
And on some Thursdays, I am posting some quick English learning tips based on the contents seen in the diary videos. So learners can easily access constant content and learning points to level-up their English fluency little by little, day by day...
And since it's freely available on a widely accessible platform like YouTube, I am happy to share it beyond just my own students. Please feel free to make use of it as a resource if you think it can benefit your students too.
If you would like to try integrating it into your classroom curriculum, you can even download the text of the diary entries in Microsoft WORD or PDF format here: Daily-ENGLISH-Diary.docx (updated every Monday afternoon JST)
HINT: you can right-click or long-press the QR Code below to save it for easier sharing in print!
