The Short Imaginal Processes Inventory (SIPI; Huba, Singer, Aneshensel, & Antrobus, 1982) is a short (45-item) version of the Imaginal Processes Inventory (IPI; Singer & Antrobus, 1970), a long (344-item) questionnaire that surveys many different aspects of daydreaming.

|
By contrast, the SIPI encompasses only three scales:
Positive-Constructive Daydreaming
Guilt and Fear-of-Failure Daydreaming
Poor Attentional Control |
To determine your score on these scales, add up your ratings of the individual SIPI items as follows (note that some items are "negatively keyed"):
Positive-Constructive Daydreaming: Begin with 30 points; then add items 2, 7, 10, 15, 22, 28, 31, 36, 40, and 43; and subtract items 4, 17, 19, 26, and 38.
|
Average Score: approximately 48 |
Guilt and Fear-of-Failure Daydreaming: Begin with 12 points; then add items 3, 6, 9, 12, 14, 18, 21, 24, 27, 32, 34, 37, and 41; and subtract items 30 and 44.
|
Average Score: Approximately 34 |
Poor Attentional Control: Begin with 42 points; then add items 5, 11, 20, 25, 29, 33, 39, and 45; and subtract items 1, 8, 13, 16, 23, 35, and 42.
|
Average Score: approximately 46 |
