euna_tengan@berkeley.edu

Euna is a first-generation, junior transfer student studying Environmental Sciences at UC Berkeley and a research assistant of CPISC. Her heritage comes from Vietnam, China, and the islands of Okinawa in Japan. With a perspective shaped by the stories of both her mother and her paternal grandfather fleeing from different wars as children, she seeks to understand how conflict alters the culture and environment of native populations. She is invested in the environmental justice and demilitarization of the Pacific Islands with a focus on the political agency of present indigenous communities. In the future, she hopes to research the effects of the US military base presence in Okinawa on the islands’ ecology, political landscape, and people.
