Viv Kammerer is a graduate of UC Berkeley with B.A.s in Art History, Ancient Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, and Film & Media. They are a founding member of CPISC and currently an Island Justice Fellow. During their time at Berkeley, they connected with the Pacific Islander community on campus through the Pacific Islander Initiative and Marianas Critical Research Initiative, and received the Berkeley Center for New Media fellowship in Summer 2024. Outside of CPISC they worked in arts and community organizing through the Office of Arts and Design, UC Berkeley Library, Institute for Field Research, and at BAMPFA where they had the opportunity to curate museum exhibits, partake in archaeological fieldwork, and organize student film festivals.
Their post-undergraduate work with CPISC focuses on film editing and impact producing for an upcoming documentary short about the Marianas, as well as conducting research about imperialism, militarization, and colonialism in the Pacific. They are primarily interested in education and using art and film to research climate justice, colonialism, and US imperialism. They are white, Philippino and Kanaka with roots in Ewa Beach, Oahu, Kingdom of Hawaii.
