Leaving the Hutaaka and Humans ============================== ** 1029/12/25 ** The platinum gem-studded star (value 5,000gp) and full plate were the items of the priest's regalia. Tess returned the star, but not the magical full plate. Underneath the platemail armor on the corpse was a soft silver bodysuit worth 1,000gp. The bodysuit is not part of the regalia. Tess tries talking with Guri-Ben-Kal again to try and sort out peace between the Humans and Hutaaakans. Then there is a commotion with the Humans, something happening beyond the hill. The high priestess smiles and says, "I think your words have wisdom." Outside, Hutaakans warriors have arrived. The two sides are now evenly matched. The Hutaakan high priestess and the Human chieftain chat with each other, Tess tries to help as an intermediary. The two leaders talk aside away from Tess, Tess overhears them talk about killing Tess and taking what he has - thinking it will aid them. They go back to their respective sides, and yell to take Tess and cast Hold Person. Tess teleports out with a warning that they will bring down the wrath of the gods. Tess teleports back to the treasure room. He finds a gas cloud trap on one chest, which he disables. The five large iron bound chests, 3 of which were locked, each had 5,000gp of ancient coinage. There are twenty gems scattered on the floor, worth 200gp each (4000gp total). The large ebony throne is inlaid with mother of pearl and precious and semi-precious stones. On the back of the thrown is a 4,000gp beautiful coronet of gold and platinum and sapphires. The gems and pearls on the throne were worth 2,500gp. The tapestry is moth eaten and it is hard to tell what it depicts. Beneath the tapestry were 70 silver ingots worth 75gp each and weighing 15lb each. There are also 60 ingots of gold worth 3,000gp total, weighing 1lb each. Tess rests in the throne room. Tess hears the Hutaakans and Humans on the other side of the treasure room door looking for Tess. The Hutaakan priestess reckons Tess has the key to the door. They talk about using a battering ram, but don't end up doing so. Tess stays there overnight and memorizes. ** 1029/12/26 ** Tess teleports outside the Human village before dawn. Tess sneaks in and looks around for Stephan. Stephan is locked up in jail. The jail is not guarded. Tess casts Invisibility on Stephan and helps him out of the village. Tess goes back and sneaks around diguised as a Human warrior and gets Stephan's stuff. Tess then climbs up and yells from a rooftop, that they will bring the wrath of the gods upon them if they continue in a warlike fashion. Tess then fireballs the roof of the Human headman's house. He does the same in the Hutaakan village, appearing as a Hutaakan and yelling a warning from the gods before fireballing the roof of the Hutaakan high priestess' house just after dusk. Tess aimed to cause a commotion, but not kill anyone. ** 1029/12/27 ** Tess is still looking for the artifact armor. He wonders if the tentacled creature has any loot. Tess and Stephan wait near the cave exits, waiting for the creature to exit. Aldara can help watch at night. The creature comes out near Tess' entrance. Tess goes to get Stephan. When he arrives, he finds that there are some pieces of zombies by Stephan. He got attacked, but took care of them. Tess and Stephan go looking for the creature's lair, now that it has left. We find the slimy large lair of it, and some more traps (ochre jellies, carrion crawlers, green slime) which we manage to avoid. We leave. ** 1029/12/28 ** The Hutaakans and Humans go into the temple a few times. Tess and Stephan kidnap a Human warrior and Tess replaces that warrior to observe the Humans. They lure the tentacled creature into the room behind the iron bars, closing the north and south doors to keep it stuck in there. They then throw missile weapons at it and manage to kill it. The Hutaakans wanted to leave it as a temple guardian, but pragmatically they decided it best to kill the creature. Tess goes and looks at the scrolls when noone is there, spending several hours reading through the scrolls. Historically, the Humans were working class, and the Hutaakans were the clever ones. Something bad happened (the Gnolls), from which the Humans and Hutaakans ran away and built a secret valley, making it difficult to find with various prayers. The social situation became more stratified, and the Humans effectively became slaves, while the Hutaakans became more uppity, and in due course there was conflict. Tess looks further for information on the armor. Several hours later he finds something: "And thus did the high priestess put on the robe of nothingness, and she was hidden from the sight of both her enemies and her friends, so that a new high priestess was nearly declared, until the high priestess revealed her presence amongst the crowd." Tess keeps that scroll. ** 1030/01/01 ** Tess tries wearing the silver bodysuit, which was non-magical and on the body of the former high priestess. Tess goes back and sits down by Stephan at their campsite. Stephan does not pay much attention to Tess, which seems a bit unusual. Over several days, Tess and Stephan loot the treasure room. Tess then goes to get Stephan's horse. In the meantime, the Humans have eaten the horse. Tess steals two of the large lizards from the Humans. We load them up with treasure and prepare to leave the valley. It turns out the lizards have sticky pads and can climb - great for avoiding the obstacles on the way back without teleporting. ** 1030/01/04 ** Before Tess leaves he dresses himself up as a Human and a Hutaakan and tries entering their respective villages, while wearing the silver bodysuit. They ignore him, treating him as if he belongs there - yet he did not disguise himself as a specific villager. Tess and Stephan take a week to get back to Threshold, avoiding the Gnolls on the way back. The lizards are slower than horses. ** 1030/01/05-1030/01/11 ** Tess asked Stephan what share he thought would be fair, and Stephan said 20%. Tess offers Stephan a share of 8,000 for himself and 8,000gp for Sukiskyn, as the value of monetary treasure is about 40,000gp, which Stephan accepts. Tess gets magic items identified with T'saz and they spend another week in Threshold selling stuff and organizing the identifications and sale of items with T'saz. Tess goes to Darokin and pays his taxes then comes back. ** 1030/01/12-1030/01/18 ** The various items that Tess got identified were: From the Redskull Goblin treasure room: - Potion of reduce (5th) [kept] From the top of the waterfall above the Gnolls: - Wand of polymorph self (3 charges) [kept] - Scroll of lightning bolt, haste, confusion and magic missile, all at 7th level [kept] From the vault below the shrine where the book Knowledge of the Elders was: - Ring of clumsiness [destroyed] - Non-magical gold necklace worth 400gp [sold] From the corpse of the former high priest of the Hutaaka: - Soft silver bodysuit (artifact). The bodysuit registers as nonmagical and appears to have been treated with alchemical silver. Its apparent value is 1,000gp [kept] - Fullplate +5 [sold] - Ring of protection +3 [kept, sold Ring of Protection +2] - Potion of levitation [kept] - Ring of jumping [sold] - Brooch of shielding, fully charged [sold] From the temple crypt: - non-magical silver needle with gold thread 50gp [sold] - non-magical a jewelled orb 3,500gp [sold] - non-magical pearl-encrusted scepter 6,500gp [sold] From the temple treasure room: - Bag of holding (type II) [sold to Ved] - Rod of cancellation [sold] - Scarab of protection, fully charged [kept, Tess sold his Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location to Ved] Tess gave the Bag of Holding (type II) and Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location (caster level 5th, DC 20) to Ved for 19,000gp (i.e. 1,000gp discount off the half prices for the items). Stuff Tess buys =============== 100 Oil of Bless Weapon 250 Silversheen 300 Potion of Lesser Restoration 10500 Headband of Intellect +2 and (Circlet of) Persuasion (+3 to CHA checks) 12000 upgrade Belt of Dwarvenkind from +2 Con to +4 Con 12500 Boccob's Blessed Book 20000 Stone of Good Luck ----- 55650gp total Tess' petition ============== Tess teleports back to Sukiskyn and picks up the bonsai plant and resumes his pilgrimmage. Travel time on foot from Keldan in Karameikos to Selenica in Darokin is 9 days, traveling through a road in the mountain (at Tess' movement speed of 60). It's not perfectly safe, but there are small places and keeps along the way, so it is moderately safe. Tess heads up to Favaro in Darokin by ship, which takes another 8 days. A further 2 days to Corunglain. Tess joins a caravan in Corunglain up to Glantri City in Glantri. Tess is wearing the silver bodysuit, so people interact with him, but he is treated as non-descript. Monsters may still attack and so forth. ** 1030/01/19-1030/02/10 ** From Glantri city Tess takes another riverboat up past Crownguard (the Scottish place), past Eltendorf, past Leans, and ends up at the tower of Uigmuir at the northern edge of Glantri. Tess walks overland to Oakwall in Wendar, and heads to Woodgate. 9 days spent in Glantri, 7 days to Oakwall, and 6 days to Woodgate. It is getting colder as Tess travels north - it is further north than the Northern Reaches. Tess goes to meet the druid Astrid to ask her to enchant the bonsai plant's enclosure for him. ** 1030/02/11-1030/03/05 ** Tess will pay Astrid 20,000gp to get the enclosure enchanted with sunglight and water and so forth. Getting it enchanted with sunglight is beyond her capability, but she will broker for Tessarael to get it made. It will take 2 months. Tess takes off the suit and goes back to Sind. Some of the suit's abilities hang around. While you are wearing it you don't have Leadership. There is a Charisma check penalty of -4 while wearing it. You don't have contact with your familiar while wearing it. Divination spells don't work on Tess while he is wearing it. Tess spends 6 weeks in Sind sorting out the problems in his security network and Tess spends a couple of weeks with Phoranin as well. ** 1030/03/06-1030/05/05 ** The City of Stars in underneath the Brokenlands, so Tess will teleport back and pick up the magical enclosure and walk back. 22 days back to Glantri City. 2 days down to appropriate depth - Gilbin, Glantri City is nearly over the Shadow Elven city of Gilbin. Tess heads to Gilbin and then to the City of Stars. Three days to the City of Stars from Gilbin. Tess prays as he travels, and eventually comes to the Temple of Rafiel in the City of Stars. Tess is permitted into the Cavern of Stone to pray special prayers. ** 1030/05/06-1030/06/04 ** Tess prays to Rafiel seeking guidance, unsure if Rafiel is in the right sphere, the Sphere of Energy as Tess thinks, for Tess to seek immortality. But he offers the bonsai plant and enclosure, along with the book on how to care for a bonsai plant that Tess had translated into Elven, to Rafiel. Tess prays for two days. At some stage the priests come in and pray and move Tess aside, and he continues praying. A few more priests arrive and it looks like they are discussing something - some senior priests turn up. Some more priests show up and Tess notices that he is glowing slightly. Near the end of two months Tess is still praying and nothing has happened. Phoranin arrives at some stage to look at Tess. Tess motions her over and talks to her. She asks if he is okay. He says he is relaxed and meditating, but not sure why he is glowing. She says he has not received a sign of Rafiel's displeasure and should continue praying. After 76 days, Tessarael is feeling rather strange. Tess finds himself drifting off, leaving his body. He is floating above Glantri City, high above it. He can see the whole world - there are no clouds or anything obscuring Tess' vision. Tess zooms over Glantri. Tess sees statues of people pop up - they appear to be the rulers - the princes of the various principalities. They appear where their capitals are. The people are small. The more senior the person is, the closer their lands are to Glantri City, and the larger they appear. Tess swoops in, until he is floating above the Great School of Magic, then into the library. Tess swoops at the floor and arrives back in the Shadow Elven lands. Tess swoops past his body, into a part of the temple of Rafiel that he has never been to. Tess sees some guardian golems, traps and doors and so forth. Tess sees another senior priest, a white shaman - Tess follows behind them looking over their shoulder. They get to a spot and open the last door - Tess can't see inside as everything is bright white light. Tess returns to his body. Tess stops glowing. A voice says, "Petition accepted, Return him when you have completed your tasks." Tess receives the knowledge of the path of the paragon. Prince Etienne appeared in his own lands, he is the one who founded the Glantri School of magic originally. Princes were of similar size in the vision. Prince Etienne was one of the biggest, Morphail was also one of the larger Princes. Some of those people popped up in lands that weren't theirs, and not every noble was represented. The bonsai plant, enclosure and book disappeared. ** 1030/06/05-1030/08/24 ** Tess goes back and talks with Phoranin, taking a week to walk from the City of Stars to Aengmoor. Tess asks Phoranin about that part of the temple. It is a project that Rafiel has given us. She says they have been working on it - white shamans and higher, colorless shamans, and the radiant shaman. Only those shamans are allowed knowledge of the existence of this place. Phoranin says that the place that Tess saw in the temple is in some place related to immortality. Phoranin thinks they are building a weapon to defend the Shadow Elven people. Phoranin is a white shaman. ** 1030/08/25-1030/09/03 ** Phoranin will arrange a meeting with Porphiel for Tessarael within a week. Tess explains what he saw and what happened. Porphiel says, "I think Rafiel wishes you toinvestigate these Humans and Elvens in Glantri and find out what it is that know." Porphiel says that the white glow is related to ascension. There is a method of ascension that Rafiel provides. Porphiel is following that path. Porphiel's mouth tightens, she looks unhappy. Porphiel says she will not show Tess the inside of the chamber. Tess asks if he may see the inside of the chamber when he finds the knowledge in Glantri - she says yes, if it is Rafiel's will. Tess asks her about the Schattenalfen situation - she says it is under control, though it still concerns her. Tess thanks her and leaves. ** 1030/09/04-1030/09/10 ** Glantri ======= Tess then heads to the Glantri School of Magic to finish around to see if anyone has followed paths of immortality there or made artifacts, and to see if he can find any information about the Shepherds of Rad. The School of Magic was finished in 875. It was the Flaems that arrived here from the Alphatian Home System. The two clans of Elves in Glantri are the Belcadiz (swashbuckling foppish Elves - famous for fine metalworks, lace, balls of gold and wine, rapier using, honor bound, touchy people) and Erewan (great bowyers and fletchers, scribes and translators, reknowned for their light horses, tree-loving Elven ecologists). There are 10 principalities - one was destroyed by the meteor and another was created recently. The Belcadiz and Erewan used to be part of the same group of Elves, then they split. Tess spends a while chasing down false leads and eventually finds out some information in Glantri. Tess already knows of the existence of the Secret Crafts: alchemy, witchcraft (women only) - dealing with curses, dracology - dragons and controlling them, elementalism, illusion, necromancy, and crytomancy. All the knowledge seems to lead back to these. Tess gets a hint - somebody says something that they shouldn't have. There seems to be a number of nobles who study strange things - they study Dwarves for example, but they seem to be studying crystal. The nobles study it, but don't tell anyone who is not a noble. There is a mention of the word Radiance in connection to this. A member of the constabulary in the bar says there is a secret order the Brotherhood of the Radiance - there is a 100,000 Ducat (gp) reward for finding a member of the Brotherhood - the constabulary thinks they are assassins or something. Tess could follow up the specific crystal research - what did they research and so forth. They are talking about large, good quality crystals - sounds like the crystals the Shadow Elves have. It took Tess 8 months to find this information. Tess found some letters in a library of two nobles conversing - careful not to tell each other information that the other didn't already know, and at the start they authenticated each other was a noble. ** 1030/09/11-1031/05/10 ** To become a noble, one must be quite a good arcane caster, that is be able to cast 5th level spells. One must either perform a great deed for the Council or be a graduate of the School of Magic. The wizard must then gain admission at the Council, where his admission is either accepted or rejected. If there's one vacant you become a baron of an existing dominion, or you get approval to be a baron but you don't have the lands. It helps to have some political acumen to get voted in. (Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty) would be useful.) Baronnies are always created a 180 miles or more away from the capital. Counties at 80 miles, duchies at 40 miles, and so forth. All the land near the capital is controlled by someone powerful. The best information on the noble's research on crystals is probably found in noble's private libraries. Tess decides to try and make friends with the Erewan. Tess is a good translator, and Porphiel suggesting investigating the Elves as well as the rest of Glantri. Obviously getting on the good side of the Erewan means Tess will be on the bad side of the Belcadiz. Tess' story is he is an adventuring Alfiesh Elf from Alphatia. A baron would spend about 10,000gp per year on upkeep. Given that Tess is in a foreign land, he could possibly spend less or more to indicate his social standing. Tess will spend 200gp/week or so for now. Tess will need to divide his time between Sind and Glantri, so about 4,800gp/year. Experience: 4,000 XP. Out of character stuff on petitioning ===================================== Petitioned: Lani, Thora, Grey Not petitioned: Roland, Safranna, Zim Turia hasn't said. Where or not your petitioned is accepted depends on how you do in seven tests: Honor and trustworthiness (or dishonor and distrust) Dedication to the sphere of Energy Resourcefulness Bravery Persistence Mercy Wisdom It also depends on how well the deity likes you, and how much you offer. Musings on Glantri ================== Thora log: http://www.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/~knight/campaign/cu/cu11.html "Several princes of Glantri have withered limbs. Since they could get normal afflictions cured this probably indicates the presence of powerful magic." On further thought the bright glowing "weapon" that the Shadow Elves are building is probably very similar to what the Glantrians built. Why else is the Glantrian organization called the Brotherhood of the Radiance and discussing crystals like the soul crystals? If it is indeed a weapon, maybe the Glantrians have already built and used it, namely the Glantrian Doomsday Device which was used to destroy Alphatia. The Glantrian Doomsday Device is mentioned in Grey's logs: http://knight.ucc.asn.au/campaign/cu/grey28.html "Out of curiosity, we visited the area where they had found the elven bodies. All 60,000 of them. There is a huge area underground, with sufficient room and facilities to keep them alive indefinitely, completely cut off from the outside world. Independent air supply, magically created food, power, the works. All beyond a huge set of ten foot thick steel doors, well underground. It was known to the local elves as a fall-out shelter, and it was clearly meant to protect them from something serious. But it evidently failed, even though not a crack in the walls was to be seen. The entire structure is even magically reinforced. Lani and Grey had all sorts of guesses. It is quite possible that the major cataclysms that befell what appears to have been all of Mystara thousands of years ago, and which even the shadow elves still remember, might have been related to this fall-out shelter, and the deaths of the sixty-thousand elves. We asked Leo what the fall-out shelter was for, and he answered that it was to protect them from what is now known as the Glantrian doomsday device. This is serious. It would explain their deaths. If the Glantrian doomsday device was used, then magic would have failed. Within a short period of time, unable to open the doors without the assistance of magic, they would have suffocated. All sixty thousand of them. It must have been terrible for them, to have had their hopes of safety dashed in an instant as the power failed them, and the horrible realisation dawn that as none were able to cast spells, magic had failed. With sixty thousand breathing the same air, they must not even have had a decent opportunity to say their final goodbyes to one another, let alone their families. And now, here we are again, somehow the Glantrian doomsday device has managed to survive the ages, and has even been used once again, although it would appear not with the same level of destruction as it was once used (or perhaps there was more than one of the doomsday devices in the past), for the cataclysm was only brought to bear against Alphatia. And we guess that the failure of magic is a way of powering the device? And, on one day of each year, magic functions at less than 100%. Perhaps the device is gradually recharging itself once again?" Tess' latest conspiracy theory on Glantri and the Shadow Elves ============================================================== Tess discusses this with Phoranin in due course. Phoranin suggested that what the Shadow Elves are building is a weapon. Tess has seen that it emits a great radiance. No coincidence then that Glantri has two organizations (the Brotherhood of the Radiance, and the Shepherds of Rad) named after and presumably based around their own artifact of this nature. Tess' guess is that the Glantrian nobility are the Brotherhood of the Radiance. As he has found out previously, the Shepherds of Rad, priestlike mages in Glantri, are the keepers of the Blessed Radiance. Tess' guess is that the Blessed Radiance is namely the Glantrian Doomsday Device, which was used to destroy Alphatia. As such, Tess' guess is that the Glantrian device was completed some time ago and used on the Alphatians. Presumably the Glantrian device is in Glantri City, which is the center of power. Whereas the Shadow Elven device is not yet complete. As part of the path of the paragon, Tess needs to make a new kind of magic or item, so maybe the vision was to indicate that Rafiel wanted Tess to help complete the Shadow Elven device. Tess had originally thought that the Shepherds of Rad actually worship the Blessed Radiance (i.e. that they were priests in all but name), but maybe they use crystals to cast spells like the Priests of Rafiel. The priests of Rafiel can cast wizard spells (Phoranin has cast Sending and Fireball if I recall correctly), and the wizards in the Shepherds of Rad can cast priest spells. Maybe the crystals help them casts spells of the "wrong type"? This may also be why the knowledge sought by the Glantrians is forbidden by the immortals (according to the Alphatians), because it violates the normal scheme. If the crystals are somehow linked to the device (Glantrian nobility being the equivalent perhaps of Shadow Elven priests in the power structure for creating the device), maybe Tess needs to hunt down the crystals that are in Glantri and give them to the Shadow Elves to help the priests finish the device. As the Glantrians already have created such a device, it would be useful to find out exactly how it worked, whether there were any side effects. For example, Thora's investigation of artifacts discovered that several princes of Glantri have withered limbs. Since they could get normal afflictions cured this probably indicates the presence of powerful magic. Stealing some of the plans for how that device was created, or some of the left over pieces from making that device, may also help the Shadow Elven priests finish their device. Another question is if the Shadow Elven device is a method of ascension, then so too the Glantran device may have been used in such a fashion. The question is who then are the Glantrians who have followed or are following the Path of the Paragon? Prince Etienne founded the Glantrian School of Magic, which is where Tess' vision swooped into in Glantri. That probably qualifies for much of the path of the paragon, "You have to have some apprentices, [..] be known as the best in the region, & the paragon also has to alter the land around their home, making it unique." If I recall correctly, Etienne disappeared for a while after the battle with Alphatia and people thought he was dead. Maybe he was spending that time petitioning to take the Path of the Paragon? That would explain a lengthy disappearance. Though it sounds like he has been taking the path of the paragon for a couple of hundred years. Who created the Glantrian Doomsday Device? - that would qualify as having made a new magic item, or is it not new because it is like what occurred with the fallout shelter millennia ago? But if that is what Porphiel is creating as part of the Path of the Paragon, then presumably it does qualify. Also note the seven orders of magic in Glantri (alchemy, witchcraft (curses), dracology, elementalism, illusion, necromancy, crytomancy (runes))- these probably qualify as a new kind of magic, and hence maybe there are up to 8 people (i.e. including the Blessed Radiance aka the Glantrian Doomsday Device) who have followed the Path of the Paragon in Glantri. Prince Morphail as a vampire (?) with vampire subordinates (e.g. Vasilev) could also be following the path of the paragon, though it would make more sense for him to following a path in the sphere of entropy given that Entropy is to do with undead and Nyx. Path of the Archvillain would possibly be the most appropriate path for Morphail. Who are the other major powers in Glantri? Prince Jaggar Von Drachenfels - head of the army; Prince Jherek Virayana - supreme judge; who else? List of Glantrian princes from Glenn ==================================== *Étienne d’Ambreville, Prince of Nouvelle Averoigne, Grand Master of the school of magic **Jaggar von Drachenfels, Prince of Aalban, Warden of the Marches, Count of Ritterburg, Commander of the Army of Glantri, Viceroy of Nordling **Morphail Gorevitch-Woszlany, Prince of Boldavia, Baron of Igorov, Viceroy of Tchernovodsk **Carnelia de Belcadiz y Fedorias, Princess of Belcadiz, Marquesa del Alhambra, Vice-queen of Monteleone **Carlotina Erewan, Princess of Erewan, Marchioness of Ellerovyn, former Chancellor of Glantri (pre-war) **Brannart McGregor, Prince of Klantyre, Viscount of Crownguard, Viceroy of Sablestone **Jherek Virayana IV, Prince of Krondahar, Khan of Singhabad, Sumpreme Judge of the Council of Glantri **Vanserie Vlaardoen XI, Prince of Bergdhoven Urmahid Krinagar, Prince of Bramyra, Count of Skullhorn pass, Viceroy of Monteleone, Chancellor of Glantri Harald of Haaskinz, Prince of Sablestone, Baron of Kern (briefly High master of the school of magic after the war) Malachie du Marais, Prince of Morlay-Malinbois, Baron de Morlay, Vicomte de Malinbois Dolores of Hillsbury, Princess of Fenswick, Duchess of Fenswick, Treasurer of the Council of Glantri (after the war) Kol XIV, Prince of New Kolland, King of South Monsterland, Viscount of B lackstone (after the war) **Volospin Aendyr, former Prince of Blackhill, former Count of Silverston, former Chancellor of Glantri (killed in the war) **Innocenti di Malapietra, former Prince of Caurenze, former Viscount of Sirecchia, former Viceroy of Ylourgne (Caurenze being destroyed by the great meteor)* Spells Tess got from Lani and Zim, or Tsaz =========================================== 2nd: Arcane Lock, Darkvision, Fog Cloud, Levitate, Minor Image, Web, Whispering Wind 3rd: Fly, Illusory Script, Invisibility Sphere, Lightning Bolt [Evocation], Major Image, Phantom Steed, Secret Page, Slow, Water Breathing 4th: Arcane Eye, Charm Monster, Confusion, Dimensional Anchor, Dimension Door, Enlarge Person (Mass), Evard's Black Tentacles, Illusory Wall, Invisibility (Greater), Locate Creature, Otiluke's Resilient Sphere [Evocation], Polymorph, Rainbow Pattern, Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer, Remove Curse, Solid Fog, Stoneskin, Summon Monster IV Tess gets the following spells for a third price, 1,766gp, from Lani and Zim: 7x2nd: Arcane Lock, Darkvision, Fog Cloud, Levitate, Minor Image, Web, Whispering Wind 8x3rd: Fly, Illusory Script, Invisibility Sphere, Major Image, Phantom Steed, Secret Page, Slow, Water Breathing 17x4th: Arcane Eye, Charm Monster, Confusion, Dimensional Anchor, Dimension Door, Enlarge Person (Mass), Evard's Black Tentacles, Illusory Wall, Invisibility (Greater), Locate Creature, Polymorph, Rainbow Pattern, Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer, Remove Curse, Solid Fog, Stoneskin, Summon Monster IV Tess gets lightning bolt (3rd) and resilient sphere (4th) from T'saz, paying half price, 175gp. Tess finds some crytic clues, but doesn't manage to figure out anything more. Tess lacks sufficient Knowledge Arcana. Many others are looking for information and are also stymied. Tess could possibly talk to Lani, but he would have to give her a lot of information. Tess checks around for other rumors of nobles disfigured due to making use of an artifact. Brannet McGregor, Prince of Cromguard, uses illusions to hide his appearance. Tess spends some time in Cromguard asking around. There is an illegal group there, known as the Followers of the Claymore, who are warriors dedicated to the overthrow of the prince - they believe he is a lich. Perhaps some Followers of the Claymore are clerics, but nobody really believes that. Tess asks Talib about Brannet McGregor. Talib believes the rumors. Talib would need to know where the phylactery is before getting involved. Brannet is one of the most powerful spellcasters in Glantri.
