Norse 2004/01/04
================
Population of Darokin is 1.3 million.

1. Locate Yuan-Ti base, find out how many Yuan-Ti are there
2. Tess can try and infiltrate
3. Negotiate with dragons: Pyrithians, or hire us as mercenaries, or train
the locals (long term) - can we use local supply chain?
4. Repairing carrier and replacing fighters. (The Starseeker was rotted where
it was hit by the Jade dragons from Valerias.)
5. Attack supply chain or scavenging

Yuan-Ti pure bloods - 1/day Animal Trance, Cause Fear, Charm Person,
Darkness, Entangle; Yuan-Ti also have Darkvision
- costs of item creation:
        Animal Trance 2x3
        Cause Fear 1x1
        Charm Person 1x1
        Darkness 2x3
        Entangle 1x1
- it won't be possible to hide activation of item

2 weeks pass:
- Starseeker is repaired, 2 fighters are replaced: 38,000gp
12,000gp leftover (we had got 50,000gp mithril last session)
- The Starseeker fighters spots 12 Yuan-Ti ships, some ships are spotted
leaving from the Yuan-Ti base in the northern region. The population
of the city taken over by the Yuan-Ti is 4,000. There's 1,000 to
1,500 Yuan-Ti that have taken over that city and nearby region.
- More Yuan-Ti are arriving.
- The dragons realise it is too late to keep the Yuan-Ti secret from
people in that region. Some 20 dragons are willing to fight. The dragons
will need help, they are willing to pay us for our help. They're willing
to pay us 12,500gp worth in mithril.
- The Yuan-Ti don't have Wizards, they do have priests.
- Yuan-Ti are paranoid, egotistical, and view themselves as a superior race.
- It is Spring, the seasons don't vary much here.
- After discussion with the dragons, they are willing to give us another
  25 pounds, 12,500gp worth.

- For a week, we can hire 2 battalions of Garan's forces: 1,000 warriors
  for 5,000gp
  - 300 light infantry: leather, longsword, large wooden shield
  - 300 heavy infantry: chainmail, longsword, large wooden shield
  - 400 archers: leather, crossbow, shortsword
- The Heldanns can commit a short division: 750 warriors + Warlord Lehrer
  - 100 heavy cavalry in full plate on heavy warhorses with greatsword
  - 300 light infantry - leather armor, sword, heavy crossbow
  - 300 light infantry - leather armor, pike, shortsword
  - 50 support people
- Sind can commit a regiment of light infantry: 300 (3 days to group with
  Baratkand forces) from Rajahirajah
  - leather armor, large wooden shield, scimitar, spear
- Baratkand can commit: ~900 warriors: 135 light infantry, 75 spearman,
75 long spearmen, 105 longbowman, 150 light cavalry, 50 mounted archers,
61 personal guard, 40 elephants on which are 160 archers, 10 ballista with
10 crew total, 10 light catapults with 20 crew total, 4 heavy catapults with
  20 crew total, 5 Ak-Ak guns with 12 gunners and 2 engineers + 10 pegataur
guards. The Ak-Ak guns are: 2 Fireball, 2 Caltrop Cannons, 1 Spike Gun. The
  Baratkand general comes as well.
- Serraine can send 2 Ack-Ack Magic Missile guns, and
20 pegataurs: chainmail, greatsword, composite longbow, heavy lances
- Teleport Circle - 1000gp component + 17x90 = 2,530gp => total 15,180gp for
6 Teleport Circles, they can do it 1/day

Eric Helsing cannot cast Teleport Circle. We find a Heldannic civillian who
can.

The commanding officer of the Starseeker is a member of the Eye of Vanya,
which is a navy division. Most of the time Warbirds operate independently.

Warlord Lehrer commanded the Heldannic strike against the city of Oceansend
in southern Norwold. Oceansend has a population of 45,000. The Heldanns had
hard fighting, and Oceansend had dragons on the other side. There are rumors
that the Heldanns won through trickery (spies that opened the city gates).
Grey is probably better than Warlord Lehrer, and will be in charge.

Another week to get troops sent to the moon by Teleport Circle.

Battle is joined after Grey's rousing speech. The Yuan-Ti have many
archers. Lani and Tess go in with Zim, locate a Yuan-Ti giving orders,
who is not receiving any, and prepare to kill him.

Dragon Bile - 1,500gp
Potion of Neutralize Poison for Tess - 750gp - used

Round 1:
A Yuan-Ti casts Deeper Darkness.
Lani summons a Greater Earth Elemental.

Round 2:
Yuan-Ti attacks Earth Elemental and does no damage.
Tess kills a Yuan-Ti that cast Fear on Tess.

Round 3:
Tess kills another Yuan-Ti, and levitates up to attack a guy who cast
Dispel Magic on Tess, getting rid of Tess' Improved Invisibility. A
guy misses Tess with a bow.

Round 4:
Tess attacks the guy who cast Dispel Magic, and moderately wounds him.
A guy misses Tess with a bow.

Round 5:
The guy who cast Dispel Magic strikes at Tess 3 times with a scimitar,
hitting once, and biting once. Tess' Stoneskin from Zim protects him
from damage. An archer at the back of the room fires at Tess and the
arrow bounces off Tess' Protection from Arrows. Tess kills the one he
was attacking.

Lani has had two fire elementals run away at this stage. Lani goes to
attack a room of Yuan-Ti.

Round 6:
3 of them cast Polymorph on Lani, but it did not affect her as she's a
Lich. Lani releases her fear aura, scaring away two Yuan-Ti. Tess comes
to Lani's aid against a room full of Yuan-Ti and 4 Yuan-Ti outside, but
misses one of the Yuan-Ti.

Round 7:
Lani is grappled but not pinned by a Yuan-Ti. Tess nearly takes one
out. Lani paralyzes the one that was grappling her and gets up.

Round 8:
Two attempt to grapple Lani, and one succeeds. A Yuan-Ti attacks one of
Lani's elementals with a greatsword. One Yuan-Ti throws Alchemist's Fire
at Tess, but misses. Tess kills the one grappling Lani. Lani gets up
and casts Insanity, but it did not work.

Round 9:
Lani is hit hard by a magical bludgeoning weapon. Tess moderately
wounds another Yuan-Ti. Lani casts Hold Monster, but Spell Resistance
prevented it.

Round 10:
Lani is hit twice again. Tess is hit and is now moderately wounded.
Tess further wounds the one he is attacking. Lani fails to penetrate
with another Hold Monster. Lani's earth elemental smashes into the
boss guy who looks quite hurt. The air elemental takes out the boss
guy.

Round 11:
We teleport out after Tess kills the one in front of him, and the
elemental picks up the boss guy.

Equipment on boss guy: - share between Tess, Zim, and Lani
- Chainmail +3
- Warhammer +3
- Ring of Protection +2

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Main battle: Grey gets +10 to his roll, due to us taking out a boss guy,
and better coordinated soldiers for us. We beat them soundly. Zim makes
an illusion of ships coming down to save them as they try to flee, and
our cavalry attacks them as they go towards the illusionary ships to flee.
That was one day of battle.

Yuan-Ti casualties:
1/3 of their force is killed outright, 1/3 of their force is wounded, and
Zim's ploy kills off another 70 Pure Bloods. The Yuan-Ti still hold the
city.

Our casualties:
3% of our force killed (90 people - 1 of which was a pegataur), 3% of our
force wounded (90).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2:

Blocking: protecting HQ unit: Turia +19 -> +19
Catastrophe: +16
Striking against the foe: +96

Their tactics are better today, but they have fewer troops. Grey gets
+12 to his roll and rolls badly.

Yuan-Ti casualties:
They lost about 20%.

Our casualties:
320 dead, 320 wounded. We lost about 20%.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3:
Blocking: protecting HQ: Turia +19
Blocking generic: +16
Striking against the foe: +96

Grey has a +15 bonus to his roll. Rolls a 1.

Yuan-Ti casualties:
They had Pure Bloods fighting before, now it's Abominations manning the
walls. They lost about 200 guys. They have about 500 left, from 1,500
originally.

Our casualties:
4.5% dead (108), 4.5% wounded (108)
=> we are down to 2,193 from 3,050 originally

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 4:
Blocking: protecting HQ: Turia +19
Striking against the foe: +112

Grey has a +18 bonus to his roll. Rolls a 10. We get the wall and hold
it, they counterattack, we hold, get through the front gate, and then
route the Yuan-Ti. The Pyrithians help us against the Yuan-Ti. None of
Garan's mercenaries loot (Garan treats looting as a crime), except the
archers. We don't capture any of their ships.

Yuan-Ti casualties:
94% of them are casualties. Those Yuan-Ti left wounded are killed.
There are only minor atrocities committed against the Pyrithians by
our soldiers. Some of the Pyrithians were being converted to Yuan-Ti,
but not enough to make a difference.

Our casualties:
1%: 11 die, 10 wounded. Overall for the 4 days: 439 dead - of those
Grey lost 127. Knight Bachelor Lars Brenner was killed due to a fluke
shot by an enemy flying ship, a piece of rock hit him in the head. His
body fell out of the carrier.

Captives:
- 5 Pure Bloods (all Pyrithians), 2 Half-Breeds, no leaders
- From them we won't get any more info than we already know.

We find Knight Bachelor Lars Brenner's body in the space battlefield.
Zim will try to use the Staff of Life on the pegataur that was killed.

** Other loot from Yuan-Ti will be determined later. **
A lot of soldiers end up with masterwork equipment.

The dragons should be able to handle the remaining Yuan-Ti that head
to this third moon of Valerias.
