XangaTracker Beta - New Features

Home

NEWS
Unfortunately, because XangaTracker is bogging down OCF's servers again, we cannot accept new users. We are currently exploring the idea of purchasing webspace on a commercial server. We will keep you updated!

XZEITGEIST
XZeitgeist is a Xanga people-watcher. It shows every picture and some videos linked from a variety of Xangan's pages, starting from any Xanga site.

XSEARCH
Don't you hate it when you know someone posted something on their Xanga a while ago, but you can't find it? I do too! And since I don't have Xanga premium, I can't use their search feature. So, I made my own.

XSearch is a Xanga search engine that allows you to search a particular Xanga user's site to find pages that contain a word or phrase. It's pretty simple in that it doesn't yet support the "AND" function and it runs pretty slowly, but case sensitivity and whole word matching work just fine. See XSearch return pages on ben61a's Xanga that contain the word 'puzzle' by clicking here.

NEW FEATURES
Here's a list of features that we've recently added:

  • 14Apr05 Keep track of Xanga user names without violating Xanga's User Policy on tracking usernames! Instead of automatically recording the Xanga username of the person who visits your Xanga (which would violate the policy), we now allow users to assign a username to an IP so that whenever a visit from that IP shows up, users can show the username they assigned to that IP. When assigning the Xanga username, XT shows the username that other XT users have assigned to that IP to help you. Click here for instructions.
  • 8Apr05 A newly added Time Zone option (on the Options page) lets you display your hits in another time zone.
  • 9Mar05 Numerous security features have been added. Unfortunately, one of the cache tables was reset so the global stats page and the summary at the top of the summary page will be skewed for a little bit. At least no visits were lost.
  • 25Dec04 Merry Christmas! Added the option to not use colors from your Xanga on the XangaTracker pages. This will help those users with hard-to-read Xanga colors. However, it is my suggestion that if you can't read your XangaTracker pages because of hard-to-read colors, perhaps your Xanga readers can't read your Xanga either.
  • 29Nov04 Added the option to filter hits from a certain IP. The JavaScript you inserted to record hits onto XT should actually already filter hits to your Xanga when you are signed in to Xanga's servers. However, this feature allows you to filter hits from an IP even if you are not signed in. Note that the options page will tell you your current IP address, in case you don't know it.
  • 20Nov04 Not a feature, but there was a problem with the OCF server which caused some intermittent problems with the login process. The guys at OCF were awesome and fixed the problem within a few minutes of my email.
  • 19Nov04 The main menu now shows how many people are currently viewing their statistics. Hopefully this will give you an idea of how fast the pages should load: more users online, longer wait =[
  • 19Nov04 The global statistics page has been optimized to run MUCH faster. Also, you get a 3-character sneak peek at the other users' Xanga member names! (People didn't seem to like this so I changed it back)
  • 13Nov04 The IP address field now links to the IP Summary page for that IP.
  • 11Nov04 We just implemented daily digests, which send a summary of the hits you received today by email! To turn this feature on, simply check the "Send me a daily digest of my statistics" checkbox on the Options page.
  • 9Nov04 You can now view how many hits your Xanga received for every day that you've been a member. Just click the View All link at the top of your summary page's hits-by-day breakdown (refer to image below). Additionally, all dates in these two places are now linked to the search feature, allowing you to see all the associated information about all the visits on those days.

  • Click "View All" to see the hits received
    everyday since you joined

  • 6Nov04 Linked the "Numeric IP" field such that the first 2 octets link to WHOIS information while the latter 2 link to location information.
  • 6Nov04 Added options that allow you to choose what fields to view for listings of visits.

  • Choose which fields you wish
    to view for visit listings

  • 6Nov04 The global statistics page now has added global information on time/day frequencies, locations, browsers, and providers. This page does some major database querying, so it takes a while to load completely.
  • 6Nov04 Locations are working a little better thanks to some added caching.
  • 3Nov04 Added a function that shows Today's Visits by IP. It essentially tells you which IP visited how many times today.
  • 2Nov04 Added blogring statistics to the summary page. Clicking View All takes you to the search page that shows all blogring hits.
  • 2Nov04 Implemented a new scheme that spreads location queries over three different services randomly in an attempt to divide the burden among three. You'll notice that locations are poping up with a little higher frequency. We will definitely continue to look for better (and free) solutions to this problem.
  • 2Nov04 Statistics added/deleted from the summary page's summary.
  • 1Nov04 Global statistics added. Tell us what you think of how this feature was implemented. What other global statistics would you like to see?

  • 31Oct04 Clicking an IP shows you every time that IP visited your Xanga. This is basically a link to the search function where the search string is that IP.
  • 31Oct04 Sped up the summary page's load time: data is displayed as it is retrieved.
  • 31Oct04 View a list of visitors who got to your Xanga through a search engine or from non-xanga sites, both available from the top menu of your XT.
  • 31Oct03 Shortened the top menu to only include heavily used functions. You can still view the visitors, locations providers and referrers by clicking their respective View All links from the summary page.
  • 29Oct04 IP addresses are now resolved to human-readable format.
  • 29Oct04 Summary page now marks the most recent entry you saw on your last visit with the >> symbol, so you know which visits you've already seen.

  • The >> symbol shows the visit that
was the most recent visit last time
    you checked your Xangatracker

  • 28Oct04 Administrators can now see the average time it takes for everyone to load their summary page. If average performance is slow, we'll look into doing something about it.
  • 27Oct04 Added a loading "progress bar" for the summary page. Once you garner a lot of visits, XT takes a little longer to load because the statistics calculations take longer when you have a lot of visits.
