¸ñ¿äÀÏ ¾Æħ: 2day's san jos&ecaute; mercury news headline reads,
"Silicon Valley makes Gates `one of us'" ("printable" version: http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/16025801.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp*) this story aktually means 'lot to me 4 a few reasons:
1. the story's 'bout how the current ceo'f my company presented to bill gates an award named after the 4mer ceo'f my company - the james c. morgan global humanitarian award. i've had the chance to meet n' have my pic taken w/ both the current n' 4mer ceos'f my company. i guess that's quite an honour. furthermore, thinkin' 'bout that makes me wonder what life's like as a famous, hi power exec ('specially ceo)'f a huge, successful compoany; wow. it's almost like being the president'f the united states or sumpthin'.
2. lately, i've gotten on a trip (gotten into) on the idea'f buying locally grown stuff. i mean, heck, that term starts w/ produce. ppl talk 'bout organik produce n' 'bout locally grown produce. like, is it better to buy organik produce that's organik or locally grown, if u hafta choose btwn the 2. this 1 author columnist in the silikon valley metro (which i sort'f feel used to be called the san josé metro... am i rt?) stett holbrook wrote in his column "live feed" an article called
"big bad organic?" (printable version:
http://www.printthis.clickability.com/pt/cpt?action=cpt&title=Dining+%26+Restaurants+%7C+Live+Feed&expire=&urlID=18645073&fb=Y&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.metroactive.com%2Fmetro%2F06.21.06%2Ffeed-0625.html&partnerID=99301). here's a quote from the article: "Faced with a choice between organic apples from Chile and nonorganic apples grown by a Watsonville farmer, I'll take the local stuff. Sure, the Chilean produce was produced without pesticides, but the jet fuel it costs to send the apples here cancels out a lot of the benefits of organic production." i totally understand what he means. i agree. i mean, i prefer to buy produce that's both locally grown n' organik, but we must consider the greater good: when u eat organik fud instead'f fud w/ pesticides n' hormones, u benefit ur own health. however, when u eat locally grown n' produced fud, u benefit the world cos u reduce pollution. furthermore, u support ur neighbours n' ur kommunite (community). me? i really wanna support silikon valley n' the bay area, if u haven't noticed. *sigh* yah, i'm a bit'f a local yokel, un4tunately. @ the same time, i aim to be a blessing upon my kommunite... whate'er that entails. like, as a church, grx aims to be a blessing upon our kommunite: pastor dave, after mtg w/ some pastor friend'f his, challenged our congregation during a sermon w/ this question - if grx were to disappear 2morrow, would the kommunite 'round us miss us? hrm, that's a great question n' a great challenge. pastor dave keeps sayin' that, as a church, we're not here to be just a social club or holy huddle. pastor andy also sez that. it's true. god doesn't call upon us to be just some asian.am social club or nething. we're not to be just a gathering'f asian.am yuppies. i know many ppl who come to grx expekt to find that... n' i agree w/ pastor dave that, in the end, it's just great that these ppl come, [later] so we should welcome them nonetheless, no doubt. come 1, come all, u know? neway... (i digress / digressed.) i want to support local companies: silikon valley companies, sobay companies, bay area companies, nor*cal companies, cali4nian comopanies, western u.s. companies, companies in regions'f the u.s. i like, companies in countries i like... yah, i think that's my order'f priority... ruffly. i wanna support companies that pay taxes in the city i live in (santa clara) or else in cities near where i live. sometimes i opt to buy gro¢eries from a supermarket in santa clara rather than sunnyvale just cos i want to support my city... altho' i wish their skate park were as good as sunnyvale's! freakin' a! why's our skate park only open starting @ 100p n' require checkin' in etc. sunnyvale skate park's friendly open door policy rocks. it's much better. santa clara - the mission city... the santa clara 49ers... keep santa clara weird. silicon valley: america's real heartland! [later] well, 4 me, the concept'f locally grown goes way beyond produce or fud in gen'l. the silikon valley has played a big part in the skate/punk movement. i'm not as much into san josé punk rock - mostly cos i'm just not that familiar w/ it despite knowing names'f bands like the faction etc.; but i'm really into san josé skate culture. steve caballero's a local. jeff kendall's some1 we lured over here from the midwest, i believe. there r many san jo pro skaters. in fakt, my own hi skool (my alma mater) graduated several pro skaters. u know how yesterday i thought maybe i was skatin' w/ pro skater tony trujillo. well, i don't think so much nemore that was him; but i have skated w/ pros in my past. i skated w/ salman agah when i was a kid. i also skated w/ spencer fujimoto as a kid. those 2 hung out 2gether. they were both nice guys. salman was big on jesus, n' that's kewl. i 1nce got steve caballero's autograph, as u might know, @ the bay area snow show in san josé; but i think i lost it. :-( i think my mom threw away that poster. *sigh* neway, as i've sed b4, i'm more into buying skateboarding n' snowboarding produkts from nhs, inc. since i know their a somewhat local, santa cruz / soquel company. when i was a kid, my dad took me on an amerikan society of mechanical engrs (american society of mechanical engineers, asme) field trip to visit the santa cruz skateboarding faktory n' meet their ceo richard novak. dude, that was so kewl. i like how nhs's independent skateboard trucks r manufaktured in the u.s.a. no doubt; that rocks. even tho' i currently have nhs's bullet trucks, which might be made in china or sumpthin', i believe indies r the best. so nhs's a local boardsports company. deluxe, the company that sponsored salman agah on its real skateboards brand, 's 'nother local skateboard company, based in sf. it's website's url's http://www.dlxsf.com. i guess i wouldn't mind supporting that company as well. i think enjoi might also be a bay area company; i'm not sure. i like their graphics (4 what that's worth) n' the fakt that they have asians on their pro team like jerry hsu. consolidated skateboards's 'nother bay area (or 'least nor*cal) skateboard company, as it's based in santa cruz. i notice that skaters @ the sunnyvale skate park ('mongst the ol' guy morning crew) like black label decks, independent trucks, n' vox shoes. i dunno where black label n' vox r located. i also c 'lot'f creature (also nhs) decks n' krux (also nhs) trucks. other brands i c: enjoi, element, santa cruz, bones wheels (powel peralta / skate one), nike sb, vans... yah, companies like skate one, vans, pro.tec (i think), almost, birdhouse, mini.logo... those r all socal brands, i think. i am a bit into the nor*cal v. socal rivalry; but i still consider socal to be 1) a great place to visit n' 2) a great place in gen'l cos it's still in the wonderful golden state'f cali. neawy, no1 here wants to read 'bout skateboarding 'cept me. silikon valley's known 4 skateboarding, produce (orchard valley), n' then - 'f course - hi tech stuff! yesterday (or sometime this wk), microsoft unveiled its zune media playa, set to challenge apple's ipod. i haven't bought an ipod n' don't plan to. i 1nce won an ipod shuffle n' gave it to the beautiful kaela hwang who had lost her ipod nano in washington, dc. i prefer to use my palm t5 as my portable media playa, but that's in the shop rt now n' 's s'pposedly being sent back to me 2day. thus, i sort'f wish i had that ipod shuffle cos i've used the lack'f a portable mp3 playa as an excuse not to go to the gym 4 weight training werkouts, which i desperately need! ugh. neway, i resisted buyin' an ipod cos'f how big n' popular n' hyped up they r. however, i realised this wk that 'least apple's a local company, so i should support them cos'f that. microsoft? it's based in washington state. washington state's a good state tho'... washington, oregon, n' cali... these 3 r good states, i think. the west coast rocks, eh?
well, last nite (¼ö¿äÀÏ ¹ã sooyoil bam), ken n' grace were s'pposed to have dinner w/ us @ û±â¿Í chunggiwa @ 800p. [later] ¿ÀÈÄ: however, @ the last min, grace txt msged me, sayin' that ken hurt his back n' so they were cancelling. insted, i went to santa clara's °¶·¯¸®¾Æ ÇÁ¶óÀÚ (galleria plaza) to buy some gro¢eries. then, i went home n' cooked some ¿ìµ¿ oodong. kaela n' i ate that n' drank a couple bottles'f oregon honey wheat bier from trader joe's.
this morn, i woke up late. cos'f the cold weather, my body cms to want me to sleep in more. i'm goin' into winter hibernation mode. i finally woke up. i was a li'l frustrated w/ myself 4 wakin' up so late. i took sooni 4 a quick walk on foot not skateboard. *sigh* i grabbed the powerbar pria (women's snack bar) that i got as a free sample n' a pro max protein bar n' rushed off to the sunnyvale skate park w/o takin' my vitamins. *sigh* i hade a "short but sweet" skate session @ the sunnyvale skate park. like yesterday's, 2day's skate sesh (skateboarding ession) was only 'bout 0.5 an hr. when i got there, there was just 1 other guy, 'nother adult newbie. he was prob'ly an engr like me, more likely a programmer or i.t. guy; just my guess. he was having probs ridin' the small bowl n' asked 4 help n' advice etc. we talked a while n' took turns in the small bowl. a li'l later some'f the other morn crew regulars started showin' up, like the guy w/ the silver acura w/ the thrasher pentagram sticker that skates really well n' catches big air n' the mormon dad.
i'm still breakin' in my vans. my vans r vans churchills. u can check'em out online on zappos. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/11590140/c/151.html
during my lunchbrk 2day, i drove out to the ross store on homestead in santa clara btwn kiely n' san tomas. it was kind'f a waste'f time, but i just wanted to browse 'round. i accidentally left my wallet in the car, so i couldn't buy nething neway. i went home n' ate a piece'f trader joe's garlic naan w/ 2 soy smart dogs n' a slice'f veggie slice soy provolone cheese. i also ate a bowl'f cereal, 3 li'l pieces'f gouda cheese, n' a large fuji apple. wow, that's 'lot.
[later] Àú³á ÀÌÁö¸¸ ¾ÆÁ÷µµ Á÷Àå¿¡¼: i found a link to this kewl article on tim fong's xanga: "class struggle - american workers have a chance to be heard." by demokratik virginian senator.elekt jim webb in the wall street journal, 2006³â11¿ù15ÀÏ.
* apparently, in order to get the "print" or "printable" version of a san jos&ecaute; mercury news story, u just add "?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp" to the end'f the url, huh? well, that's how it appears to me, but i could be wrong.
