Through our internship program, RLA provides an opportunity for UC Berkeley students to gain valuable hands-on legal experience. Interns will be trained in California and Berkeley rent law. As interns become more familiar with the law, they may begin counseling clients as soon as they feel comfortable.
INTERN QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a currently registered Berkeley undergraduate student
- Must be able to deal with varying clientele and work well with people
- Must be an effective communicator and organizer
- Must have a passion for law, rights, or helping others
- Must turn in entire application completed and on time
- Must commit to at least 3 hours of work per week (remote work available)
- May be required to take on additional duties
INTERN OBLIGATIONS
- Attend orientation
- Pass a written test on rent laws
- Must commit to at least 3 hours of work per week (scheduling will be done at orientation)
WHAT INTERNS LEARN
- Concrete knowledge of local and state rent laws
- Experience in legal research and counseling
- Familiarity in organizing public education events
- Practice in community outreach
