The following individuals and groups are eligible for membership:
The Open Computing Facility provides accounts and services to members. Members
must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria during account
creation (verifiable electronically) or by presentation of the specified
documentation:
Individuals
UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, postdocs, visiting scholars, etc.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) staff
Graduate Theological Union (GTU) students
Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) (postdoc researchers and research professors)
- Letter on MSRI letterhead stating:
- Your name
- That you are a current member, staff member, or postdoctoral fellow of MSRI
UC Berkeley Extension students
(students enrolled in certificate programs or concurrently enrolled in a course offered by UC Berkeley)
At least one of the following:
- enrollment in a credit course for classes numbered 1 through 499
- enrollment in a certificate program
- concurrent enrollment in a UC Berkeley course
UC Berkeley Extension faculty
Employees of other University-affiliated organizations
(employees who work on UC Berkeley campus (e.g. California Alumni Association,
International House, Howard Hughes Medical Institute) or closely associated
with the campus (e.g. Richmond Field Station))
- Letter from your organization or unit stating:
- Your name
- That you are a current employee of the organization
- Organizational support for obtaining the computer account
- Signature from your department (other than your own)
- Signer's contact information for verification purposes
Volunteers, contractors, and other individuals
(people who work on UC Berkeley campus supporting the University)
- Letter from your department on departmental letterhead stating:
- Your name
- That you are affiliated with the department
- Departmental support for obtaining the computer account
- Signature from your department (other than your own)
- Signer's contact information for verification purposes
Groups
Student groups registered on CalLink
- Current Cal ID of the requesting person, and signatory status or an email
from a signatory authorizing the account request
- Letter from your Principal Investigator on departmental letterhead or an
email from their bMail stating departmental recognition of the group and
support for obtaining the group account
Staff organizations
- Email from an officer or sponsor of the organization stating that the person
requesting the account is authorized to make the request
ASUC bodies not registered on CalLink
- Email from the relevant ASUC Executive Officer, Appointed Officer, Senator,
Commissioner/Commission Chair, or General Committee Chair stating that the
person requesting the account is authorized to make the request
Graduate Assembly bodies not registered on CalLink
- Email from the relevent GA Executive, Officer, or Project Director stating
that the person requesting the account is authorized to make the request
Each individual and each group is entitled to one account. Requests for
additional accounts must demonstrate a unique need for having additional
accounts and be approved by an OCF General Manager, Site Manager, Deputy
General Manager or Deputy Site Manager in writing.
