They can be thrust;
They can be cuts;
They can be left out;
They can be fruity;
They can be following;
They can be gathering;
But they're not. Not this time.
This time, they're seedy.

nope.
I suspect that there's going to be a lot of this- someone guesses a word without explaining why, I say "no" someone else has a shot-, so I might wait until a couple of answers are posted before I reply.

Remember there's going to be a lot of misdirection here- I write riddles a little differently to you guys.

Stones?

Wind? (not sure about left out or seedy)

Nuts? Maybe not...

Olives or Cherries might have more of a shout if they had seeds, rather than a stone, in their natural form, but could be worth mentioning.

Can't come up with anything that feels a definite fit yet, though...

I'm thinking wine but that seems to work for even less lines than grapes so...

as you yourself say...

wine is substantially far from the intended.

Another day or so, and I'll have to give a clue, by the looks of it. (that's quite literal)

Grapefruit? Not sure what you'd mean by thrusting a grapefruit though....

heh. That's like answering "what am I?" with "a person asking a question"

It's only been 3 days or so, I can let you stew for a bit more yet.

Well, yes. Happenstance, though.
And mostly the intended answer, but more strictly
R, A, P, E, S

They can be thrust;  spear
They can be cuts; pares
They can be left out; spare
They can be fruity; pears
They can be following; apres
They can be gathering; reaps
But they're not. Not this time.
This time, they're seedy. rapes (as in canola)
