Unwelcome at home
But for sickness.

Treading carefully, bearing Hot house/cold house in mind...

Lonely men: Man in the moon. But you're more likely to go with the Rabbit.
                Johnny Cash
                Jack Palance in the film The Lonely Man.

Unwelcome at home- Like Jack Palance in that film
But for sickness- Jack Palance has deteriorating eyesight in the film.

So the answer is... Ross River Fever?

How about a rectal thermometer?
(not worth hiding)

I know VERY few people who would welcome this into its "home."

How about ::[hide] death [/hide]::
I know I wouldn't welcome it, unless I was very sick.

A man with a job nobody else has.

Unless Terry Pratchett has a word in it.

IT'S A DIRTY JOB BUT SOMEONE HAS GOT TO DO IT.

How about [hide]an arsonist, kleptomaniac, serial killer, or sexual predator[/hide]?  These guys are lonely, unwelcome in any home and yet visit them due to their 'sickness.'

Ok, a clue...

The answer is one word, that has three different meanings, one for each line of the question... it is spelt the same and is 7 letters long... the meanings are all nouns...
