Title: A sticky one
Post by Noke Lieu on Mar 15th, 2004, 11:09pm
A recent post inspired my riddle.
Hope its not a piece of piddle.  ;)

You have it there, we have it here:
Blue or black swollen sphere
Boiled up with sweetened gear,
And that took most the year!

what did?

I'll stop bad rhymes- I mean it.
Anybody want a peanut?

I think I know of what you boast
I like to spread it on my toast

Nice one, Speaker

Wait- it almost sounds like a lady in trouble,
Best get there quick- on the double. ;)

What lady in distress I wonder
Explain the thoughts you have down under

To stop this riddle from being a quicky,
It's a matter of what flavour sticky,
The [hide]damsel[/hide] was in distress...
With this, you're assured success
Without that hide, its still quite tricky
But you'll prove that you are no thicky.  :-X

(that just rhymed so nice,
though I removed it twice)

The mystery yet continues thicker
My wit I fear the worse, less quicker
The answer I thought black or blue
Of raz, or straw, or huckle too
Persist you in this sticky quest
To answer Marion might be my best

(You guys in OZ like vegamite
but the answer is something sweeter, right?)

Before us continue this rhyming duet
You had half the answer, and you knew it.

Don't be fooled by that wayward clue
Is Marion black? Is Marion blue?
There may be reason you Marion choose,
Though link is slight, link is loose
Depends how your brain is bending
You chose that Maid for her ending?

Yes, we love our extact of yeast
spread on toast, it is a feast
Salty as the sweat of a dancer
as you say, thats not the answer

The fruit you seek, even at a push,
You'd never find on a bush.
In your mind a berry you figure...
try blue-black fruit thats slightly bigger.

No time to rhyme...

Perhaps a [hide] grape is the intended black blue fruit [/hide] and therefore [hide] wine [/hide] may be the intended answer to the riddle.

All said and done, that was fun!

From this vine you make a jelly
Slathered on toast to fill your belly

My lady Marion, an Oregon berry
She's black or blue, but not contrary

Does whine the lady when in distress
I hope she don't, I must confess

I think that she would yell out rape
To bring on the run the dude in the cape

Bobcat, come on in, the water's fine
I like you answer, being one of wine

not what I was looking for, but
I'll rhyme with you- I'm such a slut

Speaker's the closer between you two,
but was flumoxed by an off-key clue.

There's more to gleen from the original fourth line
It was the one that forced the rhyme.

Answers not wine, nor is it beer-
Don't back off-you're very near
It definately goes on toast
That's where you'll find it most.

Got to stop typing in cuplets
5 kids at once- thats quintuplets!

My favorite fruit when I was but young,
I ate so much it filled up my tum',
I've seen it as wine, so don't call me dumb,
But spread on bread I would surely succumb...

Hello riddlers... long time no rhyme,
Life is very interesting lately....

With a rhyme the Raven's come
He knows the answer, so claims the bum

In his verse hide hints think some
But, bear they fruit? Not if yer dumb

What is the fruit? My brain grows numb
By golly is it a royal [hide]plum[/hide]

To find that answer the depths I plumb
Oh woe, twas ate my toast is but a crumb

You can make wine from this fruit,
But frankly, I don't give a hoot-
When answer's whole it suits the clues,
Anything less, you're bound to lose.

Seems you've both got the flavour
Of boiled sugar that I savour
Just in case you can't see why
Here's the logic your brain did fry....

To get this fruit of a tree
The most important line, it seems to me
Is that it takes most the year
to boil up this swollen sphere.
Write out the months in an line
But just their first- that'll be fine
Then you boil them quite hard
So that list is quite marred
Leaves you with nine and with three
Look at the bigger, then you'll see
It has the letters that you need
For this truly scrumptious feed.

Of this thread, quite proud I am,
The answer is [hide] damson jam[/hide]

Speaker, we've slowed my work, but its been fun
Got to stop rhyming, so I'll start now.

Nice to see you, raven.

Okay, thanks for the extra hint. I got it now. I had never heard of it, but I looked it up in the dictionary, and discovered that it comes from the Prunus Insititia aka prunum damascenum. So, while my last guess was not correct specifically, it was generally.

yeah- have been getting a lot of that- sorry. Nobody seems to eat fruit anymore....  They're good, but not blood plum good.

And I thought you had it- super sorry. I guess thats part of that rhyming stuff.
