Title: If you look
Post by maryl on Dec 7th, 2003, 9:53am
If you look, you can't see me. If you see me, you cannot see anything else. I can make you walk if you can't. Sometimes I speak the truth, and sometimes I lie. If I lie, I am nearer the truth. What am I?

    I'm guessing [hide] an eye. If you look you cant see your eye. If you see your eyes (in a mirror) you cannot see anything else (but thats true for other things too). A "seeing eye" dog can help you walk if you can't. Eyes usually invert the picture before sending it to the brain (if I remember it correctly) but can speak the "truth" if we train it using lenses. We are familiar with the world we see if it "lies". [/hide]

Are your eyes open or closed?

::[hide] eyelids??

No it isn't eyes or eyelids. And as for the next part-we could add, "I can make you fly, or just about anything else."

    Is it [hide] a dream? It fits all the clues except the last. If it is, we could interpret the last clue - "If I lie, I am nearer to the truth" - like this. The fantastic things we see in dreams are  manifestations of our deepest desires. In that sense, they are nearer to the truth, our true feelings, than the normal things we see in dreams. [/hide]

Yes, that's exactly it.
