I thought they usually used other animals for that..

It is a funky one isn't it. It kinda shocked me when I first saw it-rather bad taste actually. Oh well, there's no accounting for freedom of speech. I'll do my best not to shock you any more.-maybe.  :D

That depends on who is using the animal, and what exactly they are using it for. For many years I took part in Native American Indian Dance. The animal used there is generally cow or deer. Buffalo and elk are also used but much harder to get ahold of these days.

Reminds me of a saying a former co-worker used when he felt he was being fed a line of crap: "My cow is dead; I don't need your bull".    ;D
