Title: History of Riddles Post by helenislovely on Dec 21st, 2005, 10:19am I posted this in the wrong place before - doh While I have lots of great books listing riddles from logic puzzles to maths, I am really looking for a book which discusses the history and context of riddles. Something with examples from the sphinx through Anglo-Saxon poetic word play on to current lateral thinking web and newspaper puzzles. I've done various google/ amazon searches but can't seem to find anything general/ for the lay reader. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks |

Unfortunately neither are readily available anymore (although perhaps you can find either in a library) |

Title: Re: History of Riddles Post by helenislovely on Dec 22nd, 2005, 1:44am Thanks Towr, you're fab. The first one looks like the one for me and there's a second hand copy available on uk amazon. Also searching with a name helped more than the frustrating results I was getting on 'history' and led me to this: http://www.wgbh.org/pages/pri/spirit/shows/087bibl.html (Just in case you are interested as well as being helpful!) Now I just have to source all the books on that site... |
