Title: One for the teachers amongst us
Post by Noke Lieu on Mar 17th, 2005, 9:01pm
Imagine, if you will, that I run a portable maths exhibition. ::)

This exhibition is a LARGE collection of maths puzzles, catering for school kids from 7yo to 18yo. Each puzzle is much like a game comprising some or all of: large board, number counters, figurines etc.

If this exhibition was to be tweaked to fit a remote cluster of small (and mostly primary) schools, with few resources etc....

Imagine you're a teacher at one of these schools...(typically, maths isn't these teachers strong point, so imagining may be hard)

What pre & post-visit resources/details would you like to recieve?

If I understand you correctly, then:

Previsit:
1. A short description I can send to the kids' parents.
2. A full description of the games / exhibitions (rules, scoring, etc.)
3. An explaination of the underlying math, so that I'll be able to explain it to the interested students.

Postvisit:
1. Instruction of how I may buy / make some of the more succesful games.
2. Reference to entry-level math books I can recommend to the kids.

Thanks BNC.
A little late, both of our replies, but valuable.

What we produced was actually a little similar to your suggestions. (but because of many factors, without the emphasis on parents)

And one of the workshops we did (may turn into do- it was great) was getting the kids to create their own versions of their favourite puzzles.
