Title: Shape of the universe Post by alien2 on Aug 4th, 2016, 9:25am Prove that universe is a box! |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by dudiobugtron on Aug 8th, 2016, 7:57pm If this were in the easy forum, I'd say [hide]because it has a 'Jack' in it.[/hide] If it were in medium, I might argue that [hide]the shape of the universe is topologically equivalent to a box. (Black holes notwithstanding.)[/hide] If it were in hard, I would [hide]wait for someone more knowledgeable and smarter than me to answer, and then read their post![/hide] Since it's in 'what happened', though, I'll have to guess that [hide]"The universe" is the name of a particular box. Perhaps one belonging to Pandora?[/hide] |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by alien2 on Aug 9th, 2016, 12:47am No, no, no and no. But at least you tried. |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by towr on Aug 9th, 2016, 8:51am The universe being a box is no less likely than Trump being a presidential candidate. Since the latter is true, the former must also be true. |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by Grimbal on Aug 19th, 2016, 7:32am I guess an out-of-the-box answer is kind of excluded? |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by Grimbal on Aug 19th, 2016, 8:42am I am not mistaken then the universe is a box. Well, maybe it is true, maybe it is not. Let's see. P = I am not mistaken Q = The universe is a box. So I claim P => Q. If I am mistaken, then P => Q is false, but that means P is true and Q is false. If P is true, then I am NOT mistaken. This is a contradiction. Therefore I am not mistaken. That means P => Q is rue, and since P is true, Q must also be true. The universe is a box. QED |

Well, because if the universe is a box, there is nothing outside of the box. |

That's smart. I was initially thinking you was implying that creative thinking isn't necessary in order to solve the riddle. Silly me. Maybe you're right. Since Barrack Obama is often called dumbass, and he is not the only one, maybe it truly is time time for changes. |

On Grimbal's part - a skillful blend of fluffy English and Modus Ponens ... if I am not mistaken. Without the intention of stealing dudiobugtron's thunder, his idea - his credit, if I read it correctly - universe is an [hide]electronic game console of sort that is a box (a rectangular prism) and it has a power chord and jack - to plug into the wall outlet[/hide]. |

My idea was an allusion to a [hide]jack-in-the-box[/hide]. Since the universe has [hide]a jack in it[/hide], it must be a box. Your idea is separate and you deserve your own credit. |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by alien2 on Aug 23rd, 2016, 1:01am Again, I don't follow. It appears I can be very bright or rather dumb. In any case, I hope you'll keep looking for the intended answer as well. |

Title: Re: Shape of the universe Post by alien2 on Aug 31st, 2016, 6:28am A hint: Perhaps a part from [hide]Harry Potter[/hide] will direct you on the right track. |
