A MAN SEES HIS ACQUAINTANCE AFTER A LONG TIME CRYING IN THE STREET. YET THE MAN KNOWS THAT THE SAD WOMAN HAS HOPE. HOW? NO OBJECTS OR OTHER CHARACTERS HAVE A ROLE IN THE RIDDLE.

Well, no other characters have a role in the riddle, but I will not nitpick and so you unquestionably win because you get the idea. [hide]Hope is her name.[/hide]

Another idea:
The woman dislikes the man very much. When she sees him in her street, she starts crying assuming that he is living in this neighbourhood. But the man knows he is just here in transit. So he knows there is hope for her.

Not bad. But I guess sometimes one look is more than enough to last you a life time and some folks are hopeless.
