Title: Umbrella Post by alien2 on Oct 2nd, 2010, 4:09pm It was early morning. Frank was alone in his flat, preparing to go to work. There was an important meeting and he couldn’t afford to miss it. It was pouring outside and he got soaked on the way to work. There was an umbrella in working order in his flat but he didn’t take it. Why not? |

Title: Re: Umbrella Post by Grimbal on Oct 15th, 2010, 6:16am There was too much wind for an umbrella. There was a serious thunderstorm, too dangerous to wear a metal sharp-pointed object around. Frank is a diver. The meeting is at an underwater pipeline construction project. Frank is a swimmer. The meeting is an international swimming contest. It was not only pouring. The whole area was flooded. He swam to work. Frank had a perfectly waterproof Scottish raincoat. But he ran and was soaked in sweat. Frank didn't expect to be exposed to the rain. His car is in the underground garage. Unfortunately, the garage was flooded. When Frank took the elevator down, it opened on a wall of water. Frank luckily could escape. Frank is meeting his apartment owner. He has to complain about the holes in the roof. At the time we are speaking, water is dripping in his apartment. His PC would be dead if he didn't cover it with an umbrella every time it rains. |

Pouring (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pouring) does not necessarily mean raining. Soaked (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/soaked) does not necessarily mean getting wet. So it could mean that there was a free sale of beer and he got drunk. ;D |

Title: Re: Umbrella Post by cheesepuff on Nov 10th, 2010, 7:45pm Harder to sprint when you're holding onto an umbrella, especially if it's windy. It wasn't his umbrella. It was his girlfriend's/wife's/roommate's/dog's umbrella, and he felt bad taking it. He knew that his girlfriend/wife/roommate/dog would be going out later too, and he left it so they could use it. Or he lost the right to use it for that day in a game of rock-paper-scissors. |
||
Title: Re: Umbrella Post by gotit on Nov 12th, 2010, 12:15am As per office rules, the umbrella had to be deposited with the security person. As it was raining heavily, he knew that there would be a long queue of people waiting to do so. And he did not want to wait as he would then be late for the meeting. |
||
Title: Re: Umbrella Post by Grimbal on Nov 12th, 2010, 10:00am Maybe he was absent-minded. or Frank didn't notice the rain before taking the elevator down. Being small, without his umbrella, he couldn't drive the elevator up again. He would have had to go up by the stairs. But there was no more time to run up. So he decided to get wet instead. or He didn't want the umbrella to get wet. Maybe one of these japanese paper umbrellas. |
