Title: murder mystery game #5
Post by BenVitale on Jun 17th, 2009, 1:12am
A man was found shot dead in his study. He was slumped over his desk and a gun was in his hand. There was a cassette recorder on his desk. When the police entered the room and pressed the play button on the tape recorder they heard, "I can't go on. I have nothing to live for." Then there was the sound of a gunshot. How did the detective immediately know that the man had been murdered?

There must have been someone to rewind the cassette.

Why? I'm fairly sure that the tape recorders I've had experience with rewound automatically when they reached the end.

True. But I assume that the recorder found in the study did not have the feature of auto rewind.

The man could have rewound the tape himself, nowhere did it say death was instantaneous, he cloud have shot himself in the stomach, dying an hour later..

OR

he could record the whole thing first, shot the gun to test it, reload a new round, rewound the tape, then shot himself.

It was the voice of his wife?

Or may be the penstand was to the left of the dead body and the gun in his right hand. (Again, I assume that the man was not ambidextrous ;) ).

gotit,

Your rewind answer is the most logical IMO.

towr,

if the recorder automatically rewinds, then wouldn't the "suicide" confession get recorded over?

And can we all PLEASE use the [hide]hide[/hide] blocks? :'( I read gotit's post before the question. (It was so short anyways)

No, because it doesn't continue recording after rewinding.

The gun was found in his hand, but he had a prosthetic arm so he couldn’t squeeze the trigger. The murderer didn’t know that he had a prosthetic arm because the victim was wearing gloves.
