Not sure what you mean but it has to do with [hide]certain food[/hide].

Do these foods have a sugary taste?

Fair warning: this is a really bad pun.  I've heard it before so I won't spoil the surprise, but [hide]Glinda[/hide] might be obscure enough a hint to mention here.

As in [hide]The Wizard of Oz Glinda[/hide]?

I heard the joke in some movie. It sounds pretty good to me.

You die of dehydration first. :P

I am looking for an answer with pun.  ;)

Well, near as I can tell most people are thinking it has to do with desserts, but you just said it wasn't something sweet, and desserts usually are.

Does it make a difference what sort of desert it is?

Not bad, but I had something else in mind, so no desserts.

I don't know much about types of deserts, but I was thinking of a usual desert, whatever that means.  ::)

A desert, whatever the type, is ... well ... desert.  That means there is nobody there.  And nobody, that includes you :P.  So if you aren't there, you can't starve there.

Nope.

Before we get too far afield, let's pick a concrete example of a desert -- the Sahara, for instance, or the Gobi if you prefer -- and think about some of its attributes. ;)

edited for stupidity: apparently I can't English.

Judging by the sources of your past material I was pretty sure of that.  ;)

As to my earlier statement, the pun is not poorly constructed and it definitely "works."  I was referring more to how often it would elicit a collective groan from the audience.  But now that I think about it, would a groaner be a good pun?  I guess "bad pun" could mean either one, or both.

My example of a "bad pun:"
Did the grape cry when it was stepped on?
[hide]No, but it let out a little wine[/hide].
That one is so bad it hurts.

I must have changed this post five times, so don't worry, I can't English either.

This is an excerpt from The Callahan Chronicals, a collection of short stories by Spider Robinson. Specifically from "Have You Heard The One...?"

People grade a pun by their reaction to it. The very best, of course, as Bernard Shaw said, is when one's audience holds its collective nose and flees screaming from one's vicinity. Immediate laughter or groan is a lesser approbation. And in between these two is the pause, followed only after five or ten stunned seconds by cheers and jeers.

I quite like this description, although I'm not sure how it would work in a forum setting...
