Title: Border Patrol
Post by JiNbOtAk on Oct 17th, 2008, 4:59am
Adam is a flashy young man. You could see it in the way he's clothed, it's evident in the way he walks, talks, and the ride he rode. He has this penchant for leather, leather jacket, leather shoes, leather accesorries. If Rayban had made leather sunglasses, he'd be the first customer.

Anyway, Adam has this Yellow Ferrari which he's really proud of. It's a real beauty, handles like a dream, with, you guessed it, leather upholstery.

Now Adam likes to go down to Mexico, flashing his flashy stuffs in his flasy car. With him being such a flashy guy, of course the border patrol remembers him. Sgt. Floyd is not too keen on flashy young guys. Even more so when they drive a dream car to boot. So one fine Friday afternoon, just as Adam is driving down the border, Sgt. Floyd flagged him down.

"Hey son, where are you goin ?"

"Nowhere pops, just gonna chill, strolling around, having a Bud.." Adam replied stoically.

"Got anything to declare ?" Sgt. Floyd asked him.

"Nah..everything I need is over there," Adam tipped his head over to the other side.

Sgt. Floyd checked his papers, and seeing everything is in order, waved him through. Adam drove on, the song from Modern Talking blaring from his boom box. ( Okay, so he's got a weird taste in songs )

Sgt. Floyd went to his officers, "Remember to check on this guy when he comes back in, there's something fishy bout that kid." The officer nodded, writing a note in his records.

Saturday came, but Adam didn't came back in. He didn't drove in on Sunday either. Or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. By Thursday Sgt. Floyd is getting a hunch something is really up with this flashy young man. His suspicions were confirmed when on Friday, Adam came again, going in into Mexico, driving the yellow Ferrari, with Modern Talking blaring to boot. Sgt. Floyd was dumbfounded. How the heck did this punk get back into the States without anyone of us knowing ? Again, he checked Adam's papers, and finding them in order, waved Adam through. This time, however, he send out word to all the border stations to be on guard for the flashy young man in the flashy car.

The week went on, with no news of Adam. On the next Friday afternoon, lo and behold, again comes the punk, the high pitch voice of Modern Talking blaring up the place. Sgt. Floyd was again surprised, how did this guy come back into the States without any of the border stations knowing it ? This had now turned serious. If Adam could journey into the States freely, then nothing is stopping him from smuggling stuffs back into the country. Sgt. Floyd then decided to conduct a search of Adam's car.

"Young man, please step out of the car. We need to conduct a search on your car."

"Aww man, is that necessary ? I've just polished the seats." Adam whimpered.

"I'm sorry son, but we need to do our job," the Sgt was gentle but firm.

"You better not mess with the seats. And don't touch my CD's either, those are limited editions."

Sgt. Floyd, with two of his officers, starts to comb the car for any evidence that Adam might be smuggling something into the states. Short of ripping the seats open, they search everything, even the ashtray. Sgt. Floyd did notice Adam becoming a little tense while he's searching the trunk, but, try as he could, there's nothing to show Adam is indeed smuggling something into the States, or how he's getting through the borders undetected.

"Ok son, you can go." Sgt. Floyd decided to let him go, while placing a special notice to all border stations to be on the lookout when Adam comes back. They need to find the hole in the border and plug it up, real quick.

No news for a whole month. Sgt. Floyd was starting to forget about the flashy young man, when, one fine Friday afternoon, he starts to hear the unmistakeable soprano of Modern Talking. That punk !! How the hell did he get back in ? Sgt. Floyd nearly cried when Adam came along, whistling along to the tune. Again, the Sgt. let him through, with an even urgent notice to the border stations.

This went on for a year. Adam went into Mexico as frequent as once a week, sometimes not going through for at least a month.

The Sgt. never did find the hole in the border, and while he did receive notifications of Adam going through the border into Mexico from the other stations, he had yet to receive any of Adam coming out to the States.

Several years passed, and the Sgt. retired as a Lt. Although retired, he still could not forget about the flashy young guy in the yellow Ferrari. Until one day, as he was sipping a beer in a bar, he heard the juke box kicking in a Modern Talking song.

He turned, and lo and behold, it's Adam, looking a little bit older, but still flashy as hell. The Lt. waved him over, and they started to talk over beers and nuts.

After drinking for a good hour, the Lt. asked Adam the question that's been bugging him for the past few years, "You tell it to me straight son, how did you come back into the states ? I know you're smuggling something from Mexico, and I don't care what, but I'd like to know how you did it."

Adam leaned back, and start to think.

"Ok, since it's a while ago, I'll tell you the secret. But you've got to promise me that you won't arrest or turn me in or anything."

"Hey, I'm retired. I just wanna know how you did it ?"

"Well, it's like this..."

How did Adam did what he did ?

<Added :
1. It's a spin from a short story I read, and some of you might get it right away.
2. Pardon the length, I'm in a typing mood now. >

Ok ok, could you guys at least wait until my hands stop aching from typing all that ?  :P

But Adam did own the Ferrari. Sgt Floyd is not stupid, he ran Adam through DMV, that car is his.

(Of course, I'm nitpicking my own riddle..)

<Added : And I thought the server is supposed to be down, wht the heck are you guys doing around here ? >
