A man wakes up goes downstairs, gets the newspaper, reads the headline, waalks upsairs, turns on light, shoots himself. Why?

I always wonder about the practicality of this one... would the "incident", that was clearly newsworthy, not have awoken him and/or would he not have at least received a visit from the emergency services/reporters?

He's a man who works at a lighthouse. He turned off the light and when he woke up to go downstairs the headline on the newspaper said that a ship crashed. He went back upstairs to turn the light back on to prevent other ships from crashing, but knowing it was his fault, shot himself.

the part i dont get is why he would kill himself over something like this? learn from his mistake and help other ships.

He probably doesn't like his chances of facing the charge of criminal negligence; or perhaps he has an overinflated sense of old-fashioned honour.

The headline said that the princess of wherever he lives was looking for an attractive husband/boy-toy and that a picture was needed to appyl.

So he goes upstairs, turns on the light for better lighting conditions, and takes a picture to send her way.

The man was in deep dept, I mean more then he'll ever be able to pay off, except for a contest that he entered in. He looked at the front page, saw he had lost, and shot himself.
