Title: Poker Death
Post by Wardub on Jul 8th, 2008, 9:05am
I searched and couldn't find this question.

There's a Poker table in a garage with 53 bicycles, a gun and a dead man on the floor.

What happened?

He obviously wasn't as sneaky as he thought.

Maybe not everybody, but someone brought his own bicycle.

Since there are 53 bicycles instead of one or two, we must assume that the owner of the garage is a thief. He also stole the poker table with his crew, and they decided to play poker in the garage. The one who wins gets all the bicycles and the poker table. But they found out that the owner of the garage was cheating, so they shot him. Being young, they panicked and ran away, leaving the body, 53 bicycles and poker table in the garage.

Are the bicycles in any particular position, like are they in a pile, or crushing the man, anything like that?

The 53 Bicycles refer to the 'Bicycle' brand of playing cards used in the game. Because there are only 52 cards in a regular deck, we know that the man had snuck in an extra Ace (or some other beneficial card) and was shot for his crime.

"a shade of wit and the art of farce."

I just got it.   :D

But a wade?  Seems something of a stretch, but the image conjured is funny enough.
