Title: How to ask for age? Post by wonderful on May 27th, 2008, 4:06pm A is interested in B and would like to know how old B is. A couldn't do the following: 1. Ask B directly. 2. Ask directly B's friends. 3. Search for relevant record that might have information on B's age. How can A know B's age? Have A Great Day! |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by Grimbal on May 31st, 2008, 1:38am If you can't ask for his age, ask for his birthdate. Or can't you ask anything? |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by Sir Col on May 31st, 2008, 6:11am My understanding of this riddle is that "ask directly" means you cannot "talk, say, or communicate anything directly" to B (i) or any of B's friends (ii); and within the spirit of the riddle I guess that would include family and anyone else who knows B personally enough to know their age. So because Whiskey Tango Foxtrot's suggestion of killing them to "count the rings" is perhaps a little extreme... Sedate B and perform a posteroanterior (chest) x-ray and an orthopantomogram (panoramic digital x-ray of the mouth). Using these images you carefully analyse certain anatomical characteristics. For example, the maturation and fusion of the proximal epiphysis of the clavicle and the greater cornua of the hyoid bone, and the general quality of the costal cartilage of the first rib. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by ima1trkpny on May 31st, 2008, 12:55pm The riddle just says you can't "search" for a relevant document... doesn't mean you can't ask to see their driver's license or other form of official identification. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by Grimbal on May 31st, 2008, 11:51pm "Search for relevant record that might have information on B's age. " Wouldn't everything that reveals B's age fall under that category? One's age depends on the birth date and that is a record. If someone was adopted and never knew his birth date, there is no way to find out. OK, maybe for young children you can have a good guess given his/her size. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by denis on Jun 1st, 2008, 9:58am If this were a Iceman riddle, I would suppose that B has a twin brother or sister C A then asks C how old C is thus getting B's age. But this not being an Iceman riddle...probably not the intended. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by Roy on Jun 1st, 2008, 3:38pm well i wouldn't cut B in half, but i would cut B at the legs to count the rings. But the easiest thing to do is if you can't ask B directly then e-mail/msn/text/write to him asking. Or you can simply [hide]if you are reading this then you have failed in arriving at an answer that is confirmed by the creator of this riddle or assumed correct by your own authority and are attempting to get a clue as to the answer or the answer itself, however if this was a clue i would have put clue before the hidden marks. Reading this simply because there is a lot of orange hidden text can only mean one of two things, that you have fallen down on the road of the true riddler, or it simply proves that you are human, succumbing to curiosity. Either way, you must work harder. The other reason why you would be reading this is that you have already given your answer and are looking to see what my answer is, however i have given my answer outside of the hidden tags, therefore there is no reason for having to look inside. I hope this has been a nice look into yourself and why you are so weak (no offense intended to anyone, it's just a joke, mostly), your time is up, we will see you next week, keep in mind that this session may have been recorded for security purposes, but it most likely wasn't. Continuing from the first sentence, Or you can simply [look at the first answer][/hide] to figure out B's age. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by BenVitale on Jun 1st, 2008, 4:53pm A could ask: B's parents. B's sibling(s). a third person, unknown to both of A and B. when B did graduate, as most people are about 17-18 when they graduate. A could get a peak at B's ID. |

I don't. Humans have every right to be curios and most people will react by reading the hidden text. The reason often isn't you can't thinking of an another answer. If it is a joke than please don't make an offensive one, especially if it is about a nice group we are here. |

Title: Re: How to ask for age? Post by wonderful on Jun 2nd, 2008, 1:54pm Thanks everyone for very interesting discussion. I saw this question in another riddle forum in which people are also discussing. The "seemingly" intended answer has been discussed by some of us here. It is either "Asking the twin" or " Asking a series of indirect questions e.g., solving unknown B's age given B's age ^2 + A's age^3 = 125 " or do some magic number trick e.t.c. In summary, this question may be open-ended with many feasible solutions. Have A Great Day! |
