Title: Ghost
Post by Iceman on May 3rd, 2008, 8:18am
The detective White is investigating a murder case, which occurred in victim’s bedroom. The room is entirely empty except for the bed, and the detective didn’t know John, but he knew right away that he used to like games. How?

what does that have to do with a ghost though... maybe boo was on it.

Not bad, but the bed has no role in solving this riddle.

You're right. Ghost has nothing to do with it. The title was just to mislead you. Not any more though.

Because [hide]"I love games" was written all over the walls.[/hide]

Nice try, but there was nothing written inside the room. No pictures either.

This is a fine answer, yet not the intended answer, which is more difficult.

hm if the bed has no role in solving this riddle then why was it mentioned in the room description?

[hide]What if the victim was found wearing a T-shirt with "I like games" written on it?[/hide]

Absolutely nothing was written inside the room, not on T-shirts or anywhere else.

Because this was his bedroom, where he was sleeping for many years. It would be weird if there was no bed inside it, as this occurred in USA, and perhaps majority sleeps on beds worldwide.

I can't think of anything else right now, but altough it sounds like it, you haven't written that John is the victim.

Title: Re: Ghost
Post by Iceman on May 4th, 2008, 12:06pm
Yes. John was murdered.

You know, the riddle is probably hard, so no wonder you cannot think of anything right now, w/o hints that is.

A [hide]tattoo

Or maybe John was conspicuously [hide]dressed like Mario.[/hide]

John ( as well as the detective ) was part of the charachters in the latest edition of MCF ( which would be known as MCF : Where the heck did Icey get all these wacky ideas ? )

Title: Re: Ghost
Post by Iceman on May 5th, 2008, 4:06am
Nope.

Sometimes I snatch ideas from the air. Sometimes I see it on television and this time I got it from my own experience.

Btw, nobody said that this particular riddle is a real good one. It can pass.

[hide]Both detective White and John were playing an online game. And they wanted to discuss something about it so they gave each other their messenger (MSN) adress. John's nick also contained his last name (for example his nick was John McJohn). On MSN John told White that he wanted them to meet in his apartment (because he wanted them to become real life friends) and he also told him that he plays a lot of other games. White agreed and John gave him his adress.[/hide]

[hide]The next day White discovered that John McJohn was killed at the appropriate adress and he also knew that he liked games because he told him that the day before. [/hide]

Iceman wrote that they didn't know each other and they actually didn't, because when you meet a person online you don't know him/her.

[hide]The floor was an enormous Monopoly board. Or a chess board.[/hide]

What kind of games are we talking about here? Video games, board games? Mind games?  ;D

Title: Re: Ghost
Post by Iceman on May 6th, 2008, 4:18am
No to all. I said that the only object inside the room was bed, so no Monopoly on the floor or poker on the ceiling. I dunno much about games, but it wasn't video or mind game.

Title: Re: Ghost
Post by ssa on May 6th, 2008, 6:08am
[hide]Lets say that the murderer is his friend Jack. John invited Jack to play some board games (like Monopoly etc.). John nicely set the monopoly board in the living room to play but in the middle of the game they started arguing, and the arguing became fighting. Jack's goal was to steal some of John's board games, but John didn't allow that. So after Jack won the fight and killed John in his bedroom he needed to escape. But John always put his name and his last name on the box of each board game he owned. Jack took all of his board games and decided to escape through the fire escape. But he accidentally slipped and he fell over the fence on the ground (in front of the building's entrance) and died. The games were all over the floor. When detective White arrived he saw that there are a lot of board games around named John but he knew that that wasn't John because he took Jack's ID out of his pocket. Then he thought that John was the murderer and he was surprised when he found out that John lives in the building. He climbed up to his apartment and found him dead in his bedroom. He knew he liked games becuase of all the games he found near Jack's dead body.[/hide]

I doubt that this is the correct answer.

I said that there were no games inside the room and certainly not outside the window. The detective didn't find any game, as John used to play a particular game for sometime. He threw this game when he got bored with it. So, what happened?

You mean stop playing or literally threw the game

1. If there's nothing in the room (except the bed) and White still knew that John liked games, then it must be the room itself that gave him the information. The shape of the room may thus hint to a game.
Examples: The room is actually a labyrinth. The room is used for playing golf (has little holes in the floor). The room is a dungeon etc

2. The game is Escape the Room. John died while trying to figure out the exit.

3. The game is chess because John just got "pawned" (couldn't resist..)

He played it for some time, but then he got bored with it and threw it away several years ago. Folks get older you know, and can change a lot.
