Title: Enterprise 2
Post by Iceman on Mar 3rd, 2008, 11:08am
You want to captain the sea ship Enterprise. In order to get the ship, 1st you must answer the question below correctly.

You are the midget tourist in topnotch health, onboard the ship, traveling overseas. After catching some fresh air outside, being a lone wolf, you return alone to your cabin. The only object inside is one bed, mounted to the wall, so you take a nap. Several hours later, you decide to get out of the cabin. But even though there's nothing blocking your way out and you can move freely inside the cabin, you don't leave it for 4 hours. Why? Mind you, the door wasn't stuck nor was the key.

If you're the midget, I suppose you can't reach the cabin doorknob and must wait for something special to happen  ;)

There is a danger outside, you are just waiting for it to clear up.

But how do you explain you returning alone to your cabin then? Nobody opened the door for you, so no.

No. You want to leave the cabin, and so you're not waiting for anything.

[hide]you just gave birth?[/hide]

other then that, the fact you have to wait for a rainy day to reach the 45 floor.

Not at all.

When you wake up, it's already night and the room is too dark for you to see anything. Since you are a midget, you can't put on the lights as the switch is beyond your reach. So you decide to wait till the sun comes up.

A submarine?  The Nautilus?

Lame, but at least you're thinking now. Just think some more. Btw, the chances are real high that you stumble on the doorknob in the dark.

It isn't a submarine.

First I was thinking along the silly lines:

Crawling up onto the bed was the easy part, but perhaps I'm a midget with a terrible fear of heights, and it takes me 4 hours to build of the courage to drop down to the floor and leave :).

No. It wasn't a bunk bed, & you're perfectly healthy.

The casinos and bars were not yet opened?

(yes, this is ridiculous considering that these watering holes stay open nearly 24-7)

or maybe he realized that the "midgets 4 us" dance/ball didn't begin quite yet.

(sorry, screwdrivers (an alcoholic beverage) can impair any individual's normal thinking patterns :D )

Nope. You do want to leave your cabin.

...they say they are serving free drinks to any individual who keeps their ass inside their own cabin for the next 4 hours?

If you don't know the answer you don't know the answer. But yes, the answer isn't a [hide]usual one[/hide].

Another lame answer- The midget had superstitions about time. ;)

Title: Re: Enterprise 2

No to both. At this particular moment you're not thinking straight; which is all right, I suppose, because this is perhaps an unorthodox riddle. Think-tank, anyone?

Title: Re: Enterprise 2
Post by Grimbal on Mar 6th, 2008, 6:12am
Due to a problem with the design of the boat, and a definite "not my job" attitude of the contractors, a giant clock was fixed on the wall half covering the door of the cabin.  You can leave the cabin only when both hands are on the right side of the dial.

No clock either, just the bed.

You are a snail. It took you 4 hours to reach the door from the bed.

Are you sure?

Bwaaaahahahhaahaaa!

That removes the possibility of a werewolf or a vampire who needs to wait for the full moon resp. the sun to pass.

What does that mean. Does that mean that Grimbal has solved the riddle or does that mean that the midget was not a vampire or a werewolf.

The latter.

Btw, I like your personalized picture Gotit. Are all Indians so handsome? :P

are you not supposed to be on the ship?

Title: Re: Enterprise 2

You're only a tourist and nobody hates you, or at least not on this ship.

You drank too much and need a few hours for the alcohol level to return to an acceptable level.

The midget is still asleep and decided in mid dream to get out of the cabin. He only wakes up four hours later (a very long nap indeed)

No to both.

Is the intended answer possible with a normal size adult, i.e. is being a midget relevant?

Title: Re: Enterprise 2
Post by gotit on Mar 10th, 2008, 8:02am
Also, is the fact that he waited for 4 hours important?

Title: Re: Enterprise 2
Post by Grimbal on Mar 10th, 2008, 8:41am
I don't know.

Maybe his cabin was almost below the sea level.  During high tide, the water goes high enough that the midget has to climb on the bed.  You see, he cannot swim.  After a few hours, it is low tide, he can go down and walk out.

::)

Hmm... small problem with that scenario. If the boat floats, high tide or low tide won't change anything. The water line on the boat stays at the same level. Only on drydock, or if the ship is grounded would it make a difference.

Also, the midget can walk freely about his cabin according to Ice.

You wouldn't think a boat where the water enters the cabins with the tide is floating would you?  ;D

LOL... That would make for a very long trip indeed.  :)

I'm not going to comment yet. Guess why. Forget about hints and clues. This riddle is not for the timid. ::)

Ok, how about a variation on Grimbal's solution.

For example, if the boat ran aground and is sideways such that the midget can't reach the door which is now above his head. So he waits for the tide water to rise so he can eventually swim to the door.

Denis is so close, but the riddle sort of implies that it happened on open sea. Still, your answer is a real good one so I accept it; but it is partially valid because Ghost Sniper is right: no water. So he simply waits to get rescued, that's all.

You could say that the riddle is over now. However, my idea happens on the open sea.  ;)

He's not leaving the room because he is depressed because he had just quit his job being ship jester because someone had cut off these wooden disks from the bed, making th midget think that he was taller, quitting his job, and sleeping off his hangover. He wake up and realizes that he is not taller at all and cries for 4 hours.

For those of you who are lost, refer to the older pages of the what happened section.
