Title: Sniper Post by Iceman on Feb 27th, 2008, 8:24am Jack is an FBI sniper and he receives orders to take out Tom immediately with his sniper rifle, since Tom shot a police officer. Tom is unarmed standing in the middle of the roof, and clothes he's wearing are the only items he has on him. And even though Jack has a clear shot at Tom, and he recognized his face, he decides on his own not to fire then and there. Why? Note that his decision had nothing to do with his emotions. |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by Grimbal on Feb 27th, 2008, 9:31am Maybe there are hundreds of snipers who would have fired at Jack immediately if they only knew where he is hiding. or Jack received a message over the radio from detective White telling him he needs Tom alive. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Feb 27th, 2008, 9:52am No messages & no other snipers. ;) |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by Grimbal on Feb 28th, 2008, 12:27am He saw Tom in a mirror? On TV? Through a bulletproof glass? |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Feb 28th, 2008, 9:51am No to everything. Grimbal's ideas are interesting, but bulletproof glass, TV and mirror on the roof? I think not. ;) |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by Ghost Sniper on Feb 28th, 2008, 11:33am He forgot to load his rifle, and he had no extra bullets with him. |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by iono on Feb 28th, 2008, 6:29pm Tom is the president? |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Feb 29th, 2008, 5:53am No to both. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by denis on Feb 29th, 2008, 4:02pm Tom is unarmed. Engagement rules prohibit from shooting an unarmed man that can be apprehended alive. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Mar 1st, 2008, 7:09am There are no weapons on the roof, but Tom shot a policeman so it doesn't matter, or at least, it doesn't matter to our sniper. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Grimbal on Mar 1st, 2008, 9:05am Maybe Tom is surrounded by a crowd of hundreds of children. It has nothing to do with Jack's emotions. He had clear instructions to avoid collateral damage. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Mar 1st, 2008, 9:15am .......perhaps now you are getting somewhere. No children though, but even if there were children, Tom is not fat so.. ::) |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by iono on Mar 3rd, 2008, 6:13pm There are explosive barrels around Tom? |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by tt612r on Mar 4th, 2008, 2:11pm maybe tom was on the roof to jump off and wanted tocommit suicide for shooting the policeman and jack didn't feel like wasting a bullet. |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by onlyme722 on Mar 5th, 2008, 3:39am Tom did not shoot because he has just realized his religion prohibits him from killing.... (yes I know, doesn't really work considering that any such person would not even possess a job that involves killing, but as an initial burst I feel that it is a creative answer :) ) Maybe a festival or parade is going on in the streets, and he doesn't want to draw attention. (killing is a secretive business, ya know ;) ) Maybe he realizes that the man is the father who left his mother when he, the sniper, was only a baby. And, though not feeling emotionally obliged to save his life, does so simply because his father's death might bring attention to his own identity, or heighten his mother's own distress (for a sniper this is not emotional...just pure fact ;) ). Ok if I keep going I will continue to give you more cockamamie ideas...so for the readers' sake, and yours...I will stop :). But please...let me know if anything is leaning in the right direction :D. |

Not yet, but I'm glad you're interested in the riddle. Btw, do you remember riddles with all relevant details mentioned? This one is not one of them, as you might have guessed. ;) |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by onlyme722 on Mar 5th, 2008, 4:45am Those are the best kind of riddles. However they are also the most torturous upon the mind. Grrrrrrr. Well if this criminal is high profile, which is highly possible considering the fact that someone is WAITING to kill him, then perhaps another sniper has assumesd the duty of killing him so the original sniper (i don't remember the names, sorry) has simply backed down. (once again....mildly inane...but inanity is the stuff riddles are made of ;) ). I will try again soon...I want to be one of those people who proudly solves a riddle and then proceeds to make some ramen noodles. hahah. ;) |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Mar 5th, 2008, 4:49am He's not necessarily a criminal, and there are no other snipers. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by onlyme722 on Mar 5th, 2008, 4:53am Not necessarily a criminal but someone wants him killed... Bush? (let me know if I'm genuinely getting annoying...keep in mind I want to honestly solve this riddle, but I am stumped right now) |

You have given me some great clues to sleep on...I will contact you when my headache goes away...in the evening ;)......if my mind has any self control... |

Title: Re: Sniper Post by gotit on Mar 6th, 2008, 4:43am Just after Jack saw Tom's face, Tom turned around. And it was against Jack's principal to shoot someone from behind. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Iceman on Mar 6th, 2008, 4:50am No. Jack would shoot him in the back if he had to and his orders were crystal clear. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by gotit on Mar 6th, 2008, 4:58am Tom had a twin brother. Jack realized that the man on the roof could well be Tom's twin. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Grimbal on Mar 6th, 2008, 6:18am His order were crystal clear, to "take out Tom". Looking at Tom, he realized Tom is "out" on the roof already. So he puts down his weapon, smiling over a job well done. |
Title: Re: Sniper Post by Ghost Sniper on Mar 6th, 2008, 4:02pm The gun is loaded with tranquilizer darts. When Tom got out, Jack sees him drunk, about to pass out, so he doesn't bother wasting a shot. |

if someone has no emotions, they probably don't have principals like this, either. Besides, the FBI would probably kill him if he let his target get away like that |
